Back Forty - Mandarin Chief from the can. Really unique beer. Might have to grab another four pack before they disappear.

Got this one in my first Tavour shipment... wish I had more beer lovers in my area I could get interested, you get $10 for every person you get to join. Oh well.

So tonight I started with Love Squirts... thought my wife would like the raspberry and coffee interplay but she thought it was too bitter. Such are the tastes of a wine lover. But I am working on her slowly.

My wife and I met with the pastor at our house tonight as the first step to joining the church we've been attending since we moved here. He roasts his own coffee and brought me some India Monsoon Malibar. Turns out of used to home brew, so during the meeting he had a Xocoveza and I had a FBS! That's the way to join a church!

Now I'm enjoying a Founders Frootwood while watching TV with Mrs.

Trying a new beer that I picked up a single bottle of a while back -- Firestone-Walker's Velvet Merlin. Actually the first beer I've had from them so far. I have a bit of a cold today, but my nose hasn't been too stopped-up so hopefully the senses won't be thrown off too badly. Smells pretty nice, getting more of a strong toasty grain kind of thing than the chocolate/coffee I usually get from stouts but still good. Taste is more in the roasty/char range, almost a bit of a smoky/ashy sort of thing going on. Noticing a bit of an unsweetened dark-chocolatey sort of thing in the smell and taste after about halfway through the glass, which is nice. Just now checked the ABV and it's only 5.5%! The mouthfeel seems a little thicker than I'd usually expect for a beer in that range. It actually seems to be coating my throat and helping to dull the sore-throat/phlegm thing I've had going on today.

Overall this has been a really nice beer, even with the possibility that the smell/flavor are being dulled a bit thanks to my cold (usually I don't even try having a beer, but I figured since I haven't had much of a stuffy nose thing today'd probably work better for beer than usual.) I'm thinking I may have to pick up a full pack of these the next time I'm at the beer store and drink them once this cold has cleared up.

I bought a bomber of this 3 years ago, it was old, and I was a little disappointed. This is much better, very hoppy, but it's got some malt in there, too. It is eligible for repurchase I'm [IMG] happy to say, cheers!
