Ah shit, I already have a few trades setup, but I can never have too much Wisconsin beer. Hit me up when Serendipity comes out or Wet makes it over there.

Things have been horrible up here in Ontario for apple farmers as well. We had a bad frost while the apple trees were in blossom. Ontario lost up to 80 percent of it's apple crop, and out of what apples were left to mature, many were misshapen. Since modern consumers demand that every piece of produce look uniform and ideal, these misshapen apples are considered unsuitable for retail. They're only good for selling to processors, which, from what I understand, is less profitable to the farmer.

Question is, will this be a one-off or will the add this to the belgian red and raspberry tart?

If I had to speculate, longer term, it would be an addition to Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart. (Near term, it's a replacement for the Belgian Red as already discussed.) That's assuming it is of the same caliber and sees the same level of sales. Maybe they move the 750s into some sort of seasonal rotation.

Edit: Based on the description I saw posted at Discount Liquor, I'm speculating that Serendipity will be more Sour than the tartness I think of with the Belgian Red and the Raspberry. Then again, if they are hoping to get the same level of sales as Belgian Red, it can't be over the top.

Given that it's been bottled in some quantity (at least one bottle anyway judging by the picture), I would say there's a chance, albeit a small one.

I would guess it will hit the Beer Depot at the brewery first. Deb's been really diligent about announcing new releases via Facebook lately, so keep an eye out for something there.

Forget having the same level of sales, the more sour the more awesome!

I have a question for you folks up in Wisconsin. How difficult is it to find the New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart up there? I live all the way down in Kentucky, but one of my colleagues has family in Wisconsin and drives home occasionally. I'd like to ask him to find these for me the next time he makes the trip, but if these beers are rare or difficult to find, I'd rather not send him on a wild goose chase.

Easy to find. Most grocery or liquor stores, at least around the larger cities, should have both of these beers. As you may have seen, though, Belgian Red will soon be replaced by Serendipity for a year-ish. Not sure how this will impact the availability of Belgian Red in the short term, but in the longer term (think a few months), Belgian Red may be gone.

Deb Carey is a shrewd business woman. I doubt that she would invest significant time and resources on a product that does not meet sales and profitability targets. Maybe on the R&D and Thumbprint lines, but not on their year-round production.

Is this technically a year round production? It seem to be a temporary replacement beer for the time being. And as a shrewd business woman, she's likely aware of the growing sours trend. Case in point, they did just add a dedicated lambic cellar.

I do not claim to have any idea what demographic actually buys Belgian Red, but I would imagine that they wouldn't see too much drop off between a slightly sour fruit beer and a sweet fruit beer. I'm not sure that the average beer consumer is out there looking to spend $9-10 bucks on a bottle of sweet fruit beer. More likely it's a BA stlye beer connoisseur, who wouldn't be turned off by some actual tartness. But as stated, that's my opinion. I could be way off.

I still hope it is sour. It would be nice to have options, because those looking for sweetness could always stick to the Raspberry Tart, or the Belgian Red when it makes it return.

As a replacement for a year round beer, I was speculating that it would be year round. There's no official announcement, so it's only speculation.

A trend among BAs for sure. Not sure about the general public. When I think about their forthcoming Lambic Cellar (which was still under tarps outside the Riverside Brewery when I was out there for the Sour Ale release), I envision more Belgian Red, Raspberry Tart, Enigma, Cran-bic, etc., which all have very good sales records. Maybe they'll goose up production of stuff like the recent Sour Ale to the level of the Thumbprint series, but I'm not betting that will be the case.

How has the availability of Serendipity been? Is it starting to show up on shelves yet?
