Been out of town, was expecting a Wednesday ticket sale if there were going to be tickets at all...but of course, Monday, and free...shit out of luck.

WWS is tasty, it's certainly no Konkey, which I chose not to attend most recently. SoE is better than both, imo.

However, this Saturday is for Key Bump and nitro Miracle Toast. One new Triple IPA, and a new treatment of what was a very tasty beer last batch. That's what I'm most interested in, as I've had a lot of both WWS and Rose Gose.

    Get you some!! :grinning::stuck_out_tongue::wink:

For a non-Hawaiian, I just had a lifetime's worth of passionfruit via fresh fruit, cocktails and desserts while on vaca. :sunglasses: Wouldn't turn down some cans if I came into them, but the frequent road trippin gets taxing.

Maybe we'll see some in Akron and Kent if they don't sell out!

The release at the brewpub went super smoothly due to those tickets. Key Bump is currently a 4.55 on Untappd, for those wondering. It's a total juice bomb, but isn't what I would consider a Triple IPA.

    Is it comparable to dragonsaddle?

I spoke to quite a few people today at the WWS release and most think it is comparable, if not better. Opinions are about 50/50 Dragonsaddle vs. Key Bump, but there is not doubt... it is a good beer.

By that scenario, I would say it is an amazing beer. Mad I wasn't able to score any, but glad it is a fantastic beer. Hope the brewery makes some for a big release.

Question for those of you who have regular access to Hoof Hearted: is there a significant difference between what they put out at the main location vs the Columbus brewpub, or between the "flagship" beers like Konkey, Dragonsaddle, Blabe, and Musk vs some other stuff?

I stopped by the Columbus brewpub while I was in town for work a few weeks ago and was underwhelmed. Tried everything that they had on tap -- Dodging Invisible Rays, Unglaublich, ESW Equinox, Permanent Marker Pen Disguises, and I Must Look Like a Dork (which was the best of the bunch IMO). Everything was definitely good, and I would drink all of them again if they were available here in NWI, but nothing at all mind-blowing or exceptional, which is what I was expecting given the hype and what their beer trades for. Certainly nothing that I'd compare to anything I've had from Tree House or Trillium. IMO Columbus Brewing Co's IPA, Thunderlips, and particularly Bodhi were all markedly better than anything that I had at HH, as are the hoppy beers I've had from Fat Head's despite CBC and Fat Head's generating a fraction of the hype.

I don't want to write off a highly regarded brewery based on one experience, but as it stands now I won't be trading for any HH any time soon unless the Columbus brew pub / the beers I did try aren't really representative of the main HH staples.

In my experience they tend to offer more experimental, smaller batch drafts at the brewpub and all of their more refined offerings get canned and released at the brewery in Marengo.

Personally I think the beers at the brewpub come out cleaner, as well as yeastier in a weird, lighter fruit sort of way. Every IPA there has a very similar profile, and also lighter bodied, kind of really fluffy, and sometimes too much so, although it does feel nice.

The canned beers coming out of Marengo always seem more dank, more distinct from one another, and have more punch.

    My opinion.

I think saying a brewery is highly regarded is different than very hyped. I don't know if I'd use the former term for hoof, but that probably depends who you ask.

Not trying to hate on Hoof because I have really enjoyed a lot of their beers, but I laughed at the phrase "more refined offerings" in reference to the cans coming out of Marengo.

I agree, "highly regarded" is reserved for the likes of Fat Head's locally, and externally places like Hill Farmstead, or someone with a consistent history of success and a very wide, excellent catalog over the years.

Hoof is good, and makes some of my favorite IPAs over many other very hyped breweries doing NE style IPA, but "hype" does describe them most accurately right now.

I would say not to form your opinion of Hoof based on the small batch experimental stuff at the brewpub. Definitely get some of the flagship ipas from Marengo as they will likely be better (I haven't had the beers you mentioned except Equinox which was one of their weaker offerings imo). Also, i'll reiterate what others have said that Hoof is by no means highly regarded. A lot of Ohio beer snobs love to hate on them. Their appeal is mostly hype because they are the only Ohio brewery canning hazy/juicy ipas. They do it pretty well in their flagships, although not quite Trillium level. Fat Heads and Columbus make better, more refined ipas, although in more of a traditional west-coast style which is not as hot right now.
