    There's hangovers then there's hangovers.

Hey you drank too much. Sometimes you feel a bit peaked, you feel like shit, a bit nauseous. With this one you can drink a coke perhaps over ice very slowly, maybe a bit of dry chow mein noodles, a cold shower, Motrin. Time helps but by mid afternoon your feeling human again.

Then there's the HANGOVER. One you get maybe 3-4 times in a lifetime. Usually involves tequila or copious amounts of bad vodka. This one blows, you wake up on the kitchen floor kinda deal, or draping over the toilet all night. There's no eating or drinking anything, your puking every ten minutes, your begging to die, the rooms spinning. You make promises to God. There's no eating anything, the thought makes you puke again. There's no drinking anything, you just retch. With this one your going to be sick most all the day, you'll be puking into the late afternoon. Your exhausted, you want to sleep , but when you close your eyes the worlds still spinning. You puke some more. Time, nothing but time on this one, had a two day tequila hangover once, it was a real bitch. That was a long time ago, and I've never done that again. I'd say I've had 2 of these in my lifetime, it's probably an blood alcohol level of .25 to .30, death isn't all that far away or so it feels. You drink a fifth of whatever and your here, it's hell to pay. Makes me sick thinking about it.

Me, and I'm 6' 4" and 260. I only drink a few nights a week, and usually only 1 or 2, but many of the beers I like are 9% ABV or higher. Drinking a 16oz 12.5 ABV beer is the equivalent of 4 12oz 4.2% ABV "normal beers", and that will probably give me a slight hangover. Your tolerance and/or weight must be higher than mine if that doesn't give you at least a slight hangover, and either should be a concern.

I certainly pee a lot after drinking yet I always weigh a little more in the morning after a session. I certainly am not "dehydrated".
Point is that your body is already awash with water. The brain may be slightly dehydrated but putting water into the stomach isnt going to make much difference.
If there really was a cure or alleviation it would be common knowledge. Not folk cures and fairy tales.

The medical facts pertaining to the cause of a hangover are correct. However, look at the Sprite ingredients: carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, natural flavors, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate.

What in the above is different from most carbonated beverages that would decrease the hangover symptoms? Would like to see the data and resources and wouldn't be surprised if the owners of Sprite had a hand in the research.

Best bet then is to always drink using using Sprite as a mixer, which would be a major buzzkill with beer...

High quality H2O and vitamin B.
Seems to be most effective for me, maybe it's a mental thing I don't know but l any sort of alcohol to treat a hangover is more a mental thing instead of an actual physical remedy. Drinking a lot of water and/or green or herbal tea to rehydrate helps a lot.
Food wise I think it probably depends on a persons diet and all are different for me as someone who eats a pretty clean, healthy diet, the thought of any sort of greasy food makes my stomach churn even more with any hangover. Go-to is something simple and neutral like oatmeal. Also any sort of physical activity or workout. as bad as it feels is a boost, even if it's five to ten minutes of simple push-up, pull up, light weights, etc. type exercises.

Exercise will increase blood flow and assist with clearing liver and detox. However, it's a bit of a risk to encourage exercise for those who do not normally engage in such.

I'd really recommend more health changes than just hangover relief advice for anyone incapable of 5-10 minutes of light exercise

Take an Aleve before bed and/or have a 24 oz Gatorade before bed. I figured this out when I was 18. Still doing it 14 years later and I never have a hangover except when I don't do this.

As long as I've been a beer only drinker my hangovers are usually nothing more than lethargy and an annoying mild headache.

I can normally minimize them with enough water through the night and just make sure I've had something nourishing for dinner the prevous night.

While it was partly meant to be a tongue-in-cheek comment, I have personally found that Sprite - referring only to drinks readily available the day after, say, a BW share - is the best option. Naturally, if enough BWs were tasted, collecting the slurry from the bottom of each bottle and drinking it is always the better option.

A shiton of water before you pass out, then more water each time you wake up to piss. Then in the morning after breakfast nothing helps my hangovers like Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Not sure if it is the real ginger used that is a natural anti nausea agent, whatever, it works for me ...

Zippy!!! One of my Hero's :sunglasses:

Before the darkness closes in you need a couple of Bayer and a big glass of water.
In the morning it's water, coffee and a couple of puffs :grinning: What hangover?
Seriously the above works great but I haven't had one in probably 20+ years

Here in AZ it's real easy to get a hangover after drinking 3-4 beers if you don't drink enough water during the day. Even if you're inside all day during the warmer months you need to keep drinking water or you'll get dehydrated real quick. The first time my brother visited from the East Coast he had a nasty hangover and kept saying "I don't know what happened, I usually drink a lot more than that and I'm fine the next day."

This is true. There are a lot of warnings out there, and reports of liver failure from taking Tylenol days after consuming alcohol. Even if I am not drinking, I tell my doctor or dentist I can't take acetaminophen. Liver failure can kiss my ass.
