I love it. The ABV is well hidden, it has a floral, peppery taste but remains a sour. I got six more.

Soroboruo was awesome. I still have a few. Sure it wasn't an intentional sour but it worked well. Roble Blanco though was awful.

My favorite J Wakefield story was he would bring kegs 1/4 full to beer festivals so he could intentionally run out of beer after 15 minutes.

And after crushing various stouts in the hot sun, pretty sure his beer will help with the heat.

I also have yet to see him brew his own stout that wasn't a collab. I mean they are tasty, but Mostra and Abnormal have had a lot to do with them as well as 3Sons (although they are in florida, and AB Summation is delicious).

I've been to more than one event where this rumor floated around (last two Huna Days, etc) and I can say math alone should tell you that these stories are pretty clearly horseshit.

Look, I know he *completely* fucked up the OG thing, and lots of folks feel like they got hosed (I'm one of them; I feel the same way and I'm still pissed off by it), but he's not the cartoon villain some people seem to want him to be.

From watching a 1/6bbl keg of KBS being tapped at a local bar a few years ago, 15 minutes is ridiculous. They pulled the tap handle and basically just kept putting glasses under it until it kicked. Pressure would vary of course, but even then it lasted about 22 minutes. Pouring glasses with a stop in between, out of a 1/4bbl, would have to last at least an hour.

He said kegs 1/4 full, not a 1/4bbl keg

I will agree with Maimi Madness being great, I thought DFPF was average. I also had a great one at GABF, but forget the name now.
I am more saying a couple hits doesn't make all of them world class.

*edit* I think it was actually MM at GABF that I remember.

    Hey Friends-

If anyone of you traders and trustees are interested in empty 12-bottle shippers from the Bruery please DM me. I hate just sticking them in the recycle bin, so if you send me a prepaid UPS or Fedex label I'm happy to give them a second life!

I like that the ones they are using now are totally recyclable. Trying to figure out what to do with styro shippers is a pain and you don't have to worry about the sound of glass on styrofoam.

I would say that... and oh so much more. My favorite beer thread of all time is the Wakefield OG's thread (now closed) on another forum with TB as initials. It's 159 pages long and would probably take a few days to read through, but it's a highly entertaining read. Pure comedy and pain.

He built his reputation solely through DFPF and Miami Madness. I'd love to say that they're both overrated, but DFPF is really tasty and Miami Madness is legendary. However, he couldn't have given a larger middle finger to a crowdfunding group that gave him $110K, patiently waited, got excited over false promises, then were brushed aside with hastily aged, shitty beers equaling $50 a pop.

What's truly awesome is that you read the initial excitement, then people defending him during the first few fuck-ups, to just everyone totally giving up and clowning the whole operation. Go read the thread. Trust me.

EDIT: So in my eagerness to write this when I saw the sub-topic, I didn't realize that @Coldstorage basically said the same damn thing earlier. Rather than delete, I still think that thread is worth double the promotion.

That has been my biggest issue since styrofoam is hard to recycle. I started off just reusing the boxes but it actually costs half the price to just buy brand new ones from UHaul since they ship free over $50. FedEx charges $22 to ship empty shippers back to CA, and they bitch about the condition of old boxes. Someone in Atlanta finally opened a non profit volunteer operation to recycle difficult materials so now they get all my styrofoam and I can feel confident the boxes are always new and in the best condition.

Putting a Ziploc bag around the bottles always does the trick for me, also the copious amounts brown paper bags/shipping material I seem to accumulate I wrap around the bottle to make it snug.

Great point - I'm in San Francisco, so use the zip 94111 when figuring out if shipping costs are less than buying new. The Bruery only sends out crisp, new, sturdy shippers, and they use the molded cardboard packing, not styro.

For my trustors I use the junk mail ads to wrap each bottle (grocery store ones work best) and zero squeaks
