I read the review that @Roguer wrote after I posted mine and it was like de'ja' vu! A fine beer indeed and we seemed to agree on most of it's qualities. Cheers.....

My second beer for today is another selection from Hill Farmstead, and it follows a bowl of wonderful leftover chili (my dinner is planned out for next week, it seems): Ellaborative #4, a 3.2% farmhouse ale brewed with citrus.

Like Earl, this beer packs a lot more flavor into the ABV package than one would guess. It has a fairly typical (and impressive) HF saison profile: honey, lemon, grapefruit, wheat, straw, and tannins all play on the palate.

Where I find this beer lacking is purely a matter of personal preference: the feel. Like a session IPA, this comes across far too close to seltzer waster for me. It's extremely light and drinkable, dare say I refreshing, and is probably absolutely wonderful for mowing the lawn. However, when sitting down and enjoying a HF saison while relaxing in an air conditioned home, I prefer a little more heft and body to the brew.

Review below; plenty of beer left, so I suppose the final rating is subject to change, but halfway through the glass and my initial impressions are being reinforced.

Happy New Trappist Easter Sunday, all, and a big "Thank you!" to @lordofthewiens for that stellar opening to the day's proceedings! My new beer for today is Chimay Première (Red). This was much less assertive on the nose and palate than I expected. Nice flavor profile, though, with notes of light toffee, caramel, yeast, and dark fruit. The estery alcohol characteristics come through as it warms toward room temperature. I paired this with pretzel nuggets and Beecher's Just Jack cheese, because that's what I'm going to pair it with if I ever have a chance to drink it in Belgium. If I can find pretzel nuggets and Beecher's Just Jack cheese in Belgium, that is.

    New Saison Sunday (Week 634)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Today was a great day of work. Why? Because I don't work any more haha, that's the best day of work you can have, a non existent one. Beautiful weather. Happy Easter wishes to you all.

I had to get another bottle of this one as the only other one I have is saved for friends, and really want to just enjoy this whole bottle solo for maximum enjoyment and appreciation. Especially excited after reading what @richj1970 had to say about his bottle. Here goes. Big Night, Suarez Family Brewers.

Pours a beautiful, lightly cloudy dark gold with two fingers of white, thick lather atop. Thick lace is left behind as the head relaxes to a lasting cap.

This beer's aroma is a thing of complex beauty that features yeasty round tart as well as sharper lacto notes, earthy funk, grapefruit pith and general citrus notes, roses, oaky tannic notes, wheaty dough, and a sort of sweet herbal thing under it all that is just incredibly alluring.

If one would have bet this beer's taste couldn't provide all the flavors in the aroma, one would now be paying off that bet. They are all here, balanced perfectly, as well as some additional over ripe fruit notes and some touches of lemon that just add to the party and turn it in to a festival of clean delicious amazing beer. The brett notes are nicely restrained.

A soft, delicate body, perfect viscosity, bright flavor presentation, clean as a whistle just dry enough finish, and astonishingly refreshing character make a mouthfeel that cannot be improved upon. All saisons should aspire to this.

One of the best saisons I ever have tasted. The dry hopping aroma and barrel notes just make this not only a delicious treat but a work of art.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Happy Easter everyone. Hope all is well. Today I am warming myself up to ham baking by drinking a pretty heavy one right away in this Clown Shoes Loonidragan

Looks very nice with a massive unforced foamy, tan colored head over it's opaque black body. Lacing quickly runs down the glass, only to leave behind spotty remnants.

Nose immediately has this slightly curdled milk presence that fades off pretty rapidly, replaced by the booziness. There's definitely a rum aroma that blends in with the molasses finish.

Taste is immediately smokey, which is honestly a pleasant surprise. The smokiness seems to provide balance as the booziness creeps in quickly as well. The particular character of the booze is very much favoring rum, as in if you've ever straight drank Bacardi. Not trying to say it's overwhelming, but that's the exact rum taste in this. Finally, there is a carob or molasses flavor in here as well.

Body is medium to heavy, but on the lighter side of heavy. That make sense? Oh well, that's how I'm explaining it. Aftertaste is less sweet than boozy.

Very good beer, maybe some age on it would smooth the edges a bit, but the edges weren't a real problem either way.

8 oz pour on draft. Bright hazy golden state color with a smallish white head. Smell is dank, some gauva, tropical fruits, some melons, slightly sweet. Taste is similar to the nose, tropical fruits, hints of mango and guava, grapefruits, dank/piney finish, lactose sugar gives it a touch of sweetness and nice balance. Mouthfeel is super creamy with medium body. This is a really nice IPA, very enjoyable and drinkable.

    New Ripple Effect Sunday

This beer is pretty apropos (correct spelling?) for NBS because it came to me as a result of the NBS BIF series from @SammyJaxxxx The initial BIF that we started here has lead to countless porch bombs, or ninja strikes as we refer to them as, that keep rippling across our great nation.
When I stuck my nose in this one I thought I was going to be in a Trillium Double Dry Hopped Fort Point situation, but I found that the flavors deviated from the aromas a bit. I ended up below the avg on this one, but it was still enjoyable.

    Poured from a 16oz can

It is a yellow gold color with some hints of orange, and is opaque/unfiltered. There was a moderate off white head that dissipated fairly quickly.

It smells strongly of weed. A definite dank/medicinal green leaves aroma. Have to believe there are some Mosaic hops in here too. I get spicy mango and pithy grapefruit and some lemon and orange.

I liked the aroma a bit more than the flavor. I get too much flowery flavor. Tastes alot like a hibiscus or tea. There is also some lemongrass, a touch of mandarin orange, a very raw, pithy grapefruit, and some light bready pale malt grain. Pretty bitter, aspirin like and resiny aftertaste.

Body is soft and a bit drying.

There are a lot of good things about this beer, and a few things that could be better. It is pretty face ripping hoppy for a pale objectivity, but pretty good overall.

Burial is relatively new to my area. I previously posted about their Kolsch - Billows. I enjoyed it so much that I've dipped into some of their other efforts: an IPA and two stouts. I've been very impressed. I don't normally go for coffee stouts but the two that I had from them were amongst the best I've had. Today I'm trying a few of their other offerings. I'm visiting relatives today and am restricted to their glasses.

This is Shallow Water, a Kolsch brewed with rice. I guess one can argue that a Kolsch with rice isn't a Kolsch (regardless of who brewed it). All profits from this beer go to the LEAF Feather Fund. The inclusion of their logo makes me think that this is a collaboration with Great Raft Brewing.

My first impressions of this beer aren't as favorable as Billows. It's clear and quite pale but not bright. There's a little white wine in the taste. Hops are present but not in a big way. There's a crispness and lightness that could be due to the rice - or it could be the power of persuasion. A nice beer if not exactly what I want.

Port City Brewing - Colossal 6 Russian Imperial Stout
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    -------------------

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.

Faint tan to khaki colored creamy one finger head, surprisingly light for a stout, but with a good settling retention. Body color is simple dark walnut brown and nearly totally opaque, just a hair of faint chestnut brown edges letting the light through. Neat looker.

Aroma sticks to solid basics. Slightly fruity ester, faint molasses, but a good sticky char and roast character on the nose. Hits light but a bit of crackling big grains tend to stick out as well, and a little bit of bitter dark chocolate.

Palate provides simple and easy pleasure. Light bodied, flirts with wet mouthfeel but is luckily more supportive. Roasting grains and faint fruit strawberry like quality, with excellent dark lingering bitter chocolate on the finish. Flavors are a bit fleeting though, but subsequent sips fix that. For high abv also doesn't come across horribly boozy either. Hints of cream sweetness make it in as well.

This is a pretty solid Russian Imperial very nicely done.

    Mill House Kold One Kolsch

Breaking the Burial theme for the sake of going with a style theme, I've moved on to this Kolsch. I prefer Burial Shallow Water to this one. Burial's beer possesses two great characters for a Kolsch - a slight fruitiness from the yeast and a smoothness from lagering. This one doesn't measure up in comparison. Hop level feels similar though. It has much rougher edges but it still achieves good drinkability.

Happy Hoppy New Easter Beer Sunday (Week 634)!

I haven't much time to spend on here today as my newest job has me on 2nd shift & I must leave in ~ an hour.

My first is the fourth of four in Flying Dog's Heat Series. I am not as big a pepper beer buff as some people in my tasting group, but I am not totally averse to them, either.

Happy New India Pale Lager Sunday!

This beer is a collaborative effort between Stone and Maine called Dayslayer. As a metal fan, this beer jumped out to me when I saw it on the shelf. Most of these collabs have been pretty solid and I generally enjoy both Stone and Maine Beer Co.'s separate brews so, why not?

Pours a super clear light golden-straw yellow with a nice cap of semi-retentive fizzy foam. Nice looking lace show; chunky and drippy by turns but semi-consistent overall. Mild carbonation rising slowly.

Nose is grassy and slightly floral, kind of pilsner-like but with a slightly assertive note of tropical fruit and bubble gum. Seems like it has a nice, crackery malt base. Some guava, pineapple and nutty notes in there... smells very clean, too. Nice stuff here.

Flavor is crisp and nutty with some pine, cut-grass and slight tropical fruit as well. As it warms it gains a little bit of a fruit salad note and has some syrupy-ness. Strong bitterness towards the finish with residual notes of pine and more grass. Makes a lot of sense that this was mostly hopped with German hops as the floral elements come out a lot as well. Feel is medium with some solid chew. Not sure this needed to be 7.5% but that's Stone for ya. Good stuff here. A "one-and-done" bomber as usual with these collabs but a solid one for sure.

Happy Easter NBS players regardless of faith. Personally, I've always enjoyed more of the pagan symbols of fertility and the celebration of the cycle of life and earth as opposed to the literal biblical stuff. Yeah, I know I'm going to hell.
Just a gorgeous spring day here on the island. Temps in the 70's with full sunshine and clear skies. A decently busy day for myself. Still have to get some shopping to get done and a few things to do around the house. Most important is cleaning up the grill. I will be taking it easy for sure with plenty of breaks in between. Right now, I've got the mets game queued up on the radio and popping my first beer of the day.

The beer is Defloured, a neipa with oats, from Witch's Hat brewing in MI. The brew checks in at 6.5% abv and no apparent bottle date that I can see. This beer was of course sent to me by @foundersasap in the nbs bif #5 box. Sadly, I'm down to only a few selections left.

On the nose I get hops and a sort of wine quality to it with citrus fruit. A lovely straw yellow color on the pour. Hazy clarity with a soft white head. A crisp and hoppy start with a really smooth flow and a slightly bitter finish. Lots of nice hoppy fruit notes with melon, peach, lemon, grape, and mango. I'm guessing this is full citra? The mouth feel is light/moderate but it's really spot on. Just a perfect balance between the hops and a crisp and refreshing feel. Neither seems to overpower the other and it's really where the brew shines. The flavors all linger nicely.

Overall, a great beer. I think the whole ne style ipa stuff has gotten pretty out of control but this beer really delivers on it's own merit. Hoppy and borderline sessionable with full flavors. I would drink this all the time if I had access to it. 4.5 on the taste and mouth feel and more in the low 4's for the other categories.
