Because I find a beer inconsistent? Haha ok then. To each their own.

I would also like to say I think it's rather amusing that all of you disagree with me. How would you like it if you frequented a few beer stores, spent all your money at these stores and then missed out on limited releases because truck chasers/people that ONLY come in for limited/rare beer got all of the harder to get beers? Does that sound like fun to you?

I understand where you are coming from. I do not begrudge you if your opinion, but I will say that I will continue to buy limited releases from stores that I do not frequent except for those releases. Also:

    1) unlike a substantial portion of this community, my wife and I typically only drink 1 or 2 days a week, which usually comes out to be the equivalent of (total liquid) 1/2 - 1 six pack a weekend. Because we don't drink a lot, we basically buy whatever we want and spend whatever we want on that beer. That means we don't buy "the regular stuff". We predominately buy the limited releases, good European imports (that are not limited but only at stores NOT in my area), etc. Even the non-expensive shit we buy is still high quality German Weis Biers, not local shitty wheat beer.

    2) I cannot get what i want from any 1 store within about 2 hours of where I live. The local store that gets limited releases of some of the stuff I like does not carry goose island, which is a favorite of ours. The closest store that gets the sisters from Goose Island is an hour away, and charge some of the highest prices I have seen for them (like $15 for a 4 pack of Sophie when other "nearby" stores charge 11-12, then upwards of $30 for even a Lolita Bomber, which should be $17-20). And none of those carry any significant European imports.

By your logic I should be SOL and not really ever purchase limited release stuff. Am I in a small town? Yes. Is what I am saying less relevant in a large town? Yes. That said, I have never been to a city where I did not shop at 3-4 different bottle stores + 1-2 grocery stores, simply because their distribution was different.

With regard to founders and KBS specifically, a rep told me that ~51% of their sales comes from all day IPA. If you drew a ven diagram of All day IPA drinkers (as a prodominat purchase) and this forum, I bet the overlap would not be more than 20% of that 51%. That is only 10% of all sales despite All day IPA accounting for 51% total. So, at least in a large way KBS distribution will be skewed by non BA type folks.

Also, the local place that sells Founders and gets KBS for me (that does not sell Goose Island) only carries like 2-3 types of Founders. None of which I am a particular fan of.

Finally, this is a "behavior begets behavior" problem. People will always buy at multiple stores. As long as someone does lots will. As long as I am not buying much (e.g. 1 4-pack KBS/store), I don't feel bad at all spending 12 hours calling 25 locations and driving to 20 of them to score a total of 8 4 packs of one of my favorite beers that I can only get 1 time a year. I worked for it, and I think I deserve it. I will also gladly offer some to people who got none. Unless it is CBS. Probably keeping all my CBS in December.:stuck_out_tongue::grinning:

Had this yesterday, it was fine. I wish these chili beers would be heavy on the chili. If I see spiced on the label, I am expecting some heat, so give it to me. I don't want to try and guess if it's there. This was along those lines, light heat on top of the base. Oh well. So far, nothing beats canis mexicanus for me.

I would either think I should have put more pep in my step if I really wanted said beer, or else, "by golly why didn't my best buddy in the whole world behind the counter save me some since I'm always here buying all teh Dortmunder Gold~!"

I mean really, how often must one frequent a store in order to be considered a regular? If you value your regulars so much, why not hide away all your limited beers in order to give them first crack? That might make those regulars a little more loyal, but you also might see a dip in all the other people you don't consider regulars (i.e. people that don't live within walking distance).

A lot of us get our beers directly from the breweries, and then occasionally pick up random sixers while grocery shopping. I can't imagine there are a significant number of people going to bottle shops on the daily just to see what's new, or to buy their nightly beer by the singles. But almost everyone is a regular, on some level.

Anyway, anyone seeing Born Again Yesterday around NE Ohio? I thought I'd see it around the time when I picked up Waldos, but I still haven't.

    Tribe rained out so...
New brew wise, how does the 2017 KBS at 12oz for $6-6.50 stack up to JOs BA DA at 12.7oz for $11.50? I'm not talking about vintages, but the recent releases from both breweries.

More barrel character out of JOs. I prefer the barrel characteristics, so I would go JOs. Both are excellent beers and if it were my choice, I would have both in my cellar for availability at any time.... it's a good thing I do have them both in my cellar.

While it's nice to have any of the above as a once-a-quarter indulgence in the cellar, I'd take non-BA Cafe Silk Porter in six pack cans all day over all of them if I could. Can't lie. Can dream.

I find the luxury of finding JOs BA DA at my local grocery store multiple times throughout the year tips the balance for me. Had a 2012 KBS last week and the mouthfeel and flavor profile crushed the latest release. Always nice to see quantity in the NEO area, but let's see how it measures with age.
