I think for the most part the quality is still there with the upped production.

All of the beers that made them the hyped up darling of year 1 are still good stuff. I never got the hype, but I thought it was above average stuff, and really, REALLY enjoyed Cherry Hunter.

However, with the increased capacity they can also take some more chances and put out things that aren't going to be the best.

Wish they would put cherry hunter in cans though. That was far and away the best hunter, and IMO, the best beer they make.

Ahh..maybe I just have a problem. I'm 6' 200lbs and swing from days to nights to days a lot, so I stay awake late/early playing videogames and drinking too much beer to reset my sleep schedule, much to my wife's chagrin. 1.5 bombers over 4 hours would still keep my K/D ratio respectable. Unfortunately I usually drink much more than that and thus it is the opposite of respectable.

I actually agree with you 100% -- and FWIW I bought two 4 packs of Zero Discipline on the day of the release, and then when back and bought another half case the next day because IMO it was damn good and worth it.

But that said, there is a difference between complaining about price, and simply noting when it is high. I regularly buy and drink Bare Hands, Transient, 18th Street, and Todd / Abrasive from Surly as well as $10-$12+ bombers from a ton of different breweries -- anything in that price range is really expensive beer. I'm not complaining (although I know that many are), just making note.

Totally agree with this BTW -- it's why most of us tend to drink mostly local. The price is worth it for me to head up to Bridgman and buy Juice is Loose, etc -- but I just don't have the time to spend most of an entire day chasing beer, period. And certainly not when broadly comparable beer is available with no hassle here in NWI.

Distinction noted. I can live with that.

No one is forcing you to do anything. 4 hours after lunch to drink 35 ounces should be doable for most people here... and reasonable. If you are going to Dark Lord and have one of the earlier sessions... you might have 35 ounces prior to opening at 9 a.m... people are used to drinking early at events.

$50 for what you get is very reasonable and you don't have to purchase any other bottles... just enjoy the event and your pours... then go home. How many people here have been to a Ball game or a concert recently and spent $50 for a couple Bud Lights and some Nachos... Here you get great Craft Beer, entertainment, and some swag. I'm not sure what you people want? Compared to last year.... I think the adjustment made to the pricing for the event was in the right direction. I honestly don't know how they could improve upon.

This was just my 2 cents. I understand I don't have to go - I was responding to explain why (at least for me) it is not worth it.

I don't much like drinking at bars/breweries. I much prefer the intimate setting of...my home. If you're doing a bottle share (like DLD), that's something separate, and those are cool.

This event is not about what's on tap - this event is about what you can buy to take home. They are implicitly charging for you to reserve beer to take home. Yes, you get 35oz in return, but that's not the point of the event. The point is the bottle release. They are forcing you to pay to attend the event to get the bottles.

Yes, 35oz over 4 hours is fine. If you read further down you'll note that I thought they were 10oz pours, so I thought 70oz. 70oz over 4 hours - at least for me - would be too much for me for an event like this. If you go to DLD, that's sort of a huge reason for going. I think everyone can agree that the bottle shares at DLD are also much better than these, and so drinking 70oz at DLD would be much preferred to drinking 70oz at 18th street.

I'm with you on the home drinking. I've been lurking this thread in the hopes it will open up to a simple bottle sale in which case I would take a trip, grab bottles, then jet back home to WI to enjoy them at my leisure. No way I'm paying $50 for the privilege of spending more on bottles even if the pours and swag even out the cost because then I have to figure out how to get back home with a nice buzz on after I "get my money's worth."

Just stop and ask the cops next door for the quickest way to the highway. They're super helpful.

In case you missed it, 18th Street quietly announced that ticket sales end Friday at 11pm. I am going to go out on a limb and say it won't sell out.

You took some measure of pleasure in reporting that, me thinks.

    You have a tell.

Why end ticket sales at an arbitrary time if it doesn't sell out? I don't get it and won't guess since I've been stupidly wrong on another thread of this site once already today...

There was almost a wager a few pages back. I look as bad for not taking it as you do for almost making it.

If they end ticket sales they can adjust allotments and get that all sorted ahead of time. That's the only reason I could see to close it down.

I think maybe they might donate the remaining tickets to the Make a Wish Foundation. That way husbands who spent $200 on the beer fest the previous month can't afford to go without risking certain death from their wives.

    :grinning:

Now if only they would create a new ticket of $10 that would allow you to buy the allotment and that's it!

Maybe they will just bottle only enough for the Massacre and keep the rest to tap.

Looks like final tally was 260 when they cut off sales.

13k can throw a good party.

Still find it weird to cut off sales.

Still would try to try Some of their BA stouts.

    Oh well I guess.

At least they didn't try to claim "sold out" this year.
