We've gone over the entire scenario and I don't think anything new can be stated in regards to supply and demand. It'd be futile to reiterate everything that was said considering the above user has failed to consider the whole of the conversation that preceded his comment.

The more I think about it, the less I have an issue with TG essentially taxing the Whalezbro crowd, while keeping the rest of their offerings at very reasonable price points, than I do with breweries in the area that charge $7 for a 12 ounce IPA pour as their cheapest beer.

TG's loyal customers, the ones that the brewery is built on, aren't the ones doing selling their children into prostitution to get a bottle of beer. They're the ones coming in and drinking pints of Sue, Pompeii, Nugget, Dotz, and whatever hoppy beer is on tap at the tap room at $4.50 per crack.

I guess my question would be did other breweries do this for their most sought after beer as they were growing? For example, Founders with KBS or Bells with Black Note? If the 4/pack prices for those was $20 (for example) would other highly sought after stouts only be $5 for the 4/pack? I know times are different now, but the same principle applies, they were one of the highly sought after national beers of their day, did they gouge because they could?

As for something like BA expo right now, which was $28/4 pack and arguably the best stout to come out of Michigan so far this year, would you rather have 14 BA expo or 4 MD. Would be an interesting poll. As someone that has only had BA expo, I would be on the fence, would need to see if MD was that much better, or better at all.

You're right. True supply and demand pricing would be higher.

    It is not gouging.

Honestly, I don't give a damn what TG wants to charge, I likely won't ever get the opportunity to purchase such bottles at their facility. My personal experience is an important contrast, however, considering I have bought on-premise only, barrel-aged flavored stouts in 22oz bottles that were less expensive than this per bottle, and also produced in far lower quantities. The price for these non-barrel aged 12oz bottles of flavored stout is certainly shameless, but people will pay because it's always been difficult to get ahold of, by design.

Let's be real, they are not holding their tanks underneath a milk-able unicorn that has a finite amount of fluid to provide. This isn't a rare earth. It's being treated like it's a limited edition collectible item. It's reproduced annually, could be done more frequently, and requires pretty basic ingredients to brewing beer. It's absurd. Granted they have supposedly increased MD quantities to meet maybe a larger sliver of the demand, but they are capable of far more, in regards to many facets of this entire scenario and not just volume.

So basically this is being treated just like any other luxury item, like a car, clothing, jewelry etc. etc and normal economic models apply. Carry on then.

The dumb in this thread is beginning to rise again. I'd like to see a well-made graph that tracks the stupidity over time...

Because the supply could be higher and you, personally, don't demand it, does not mean that supply/demand pricing is not at play here. You said as much with this quote: "The price for these non-barrel aged 12oz bottles of flavored stout is certainly shameless, but people will pay because it's always been difficult to get ahold of, by design."

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but isn't this more-or-less the same deal they had for MD the last time around?

I'd vote for 14 BA Expo and I've had both.

So basically all they've done is cut back on the pour, and not keep the tap room open during the MD pick up. They'll probably have something wild on tap when they open at 4:30, especially if they want to keep pace with the party down the hill.

TG release over-reactions never fail to disappoint.

Eh... How well do you know TG?

As I've been saying -- Come for the MD bottles, stay for the PR anniversary party.

Smaller pour on site. More beer to take home. Same price. Sky is falling.

This honestly may be my biggest beef (I have a few) with these guys lately. The bullshit that happened with the Miami Madness last year really was a slap in the face to those attending. Not even bothering with the financial chatter, it's been said by others.

I was already planning to be in Decorah for other events the same weekend as the event, is this going to make stopping in at TG and PR for a few beers basically impossible now?

I've been a regular customer since 2012, so I'd say well enough to know that they don't want to get outshined?

I'm not predicting KBBS pours, but I'd bet they'll have some of their best hoppy beers available. You're right on the nose about Pulpit Rock who is guaranteed to have some insane beers on tap, and I just can't see TG settling for Sue/Nugget/Pompeii/Dotz when they reopen that day. Maybe I'll be wrong, but it would seem out of character.
