In a laid back setting, yes. In the past, TG has closed early the Friday before a release Saturday. Pulpit should be open normal hours, but they might do the same given the 2 year anniversary party.

I'd bet C&C will have some awesome things in store for that weekend. Based on previous releases, a Forager appearance seems likely. Which would be awesome.

Cool, we'll be in town (with baby in tow) for the opening of our friends pizza farm just south of town so this probably won't be the best TG/PR weekend but hopefully I'll be able to sneak away for a beer or two at some point. Are there details of PR anniversary party somewhere? I didn't see anything on their website or facebook page.

I'm not sure how I feel about this being considered a luxury good. Luxury goods should be super inelastic on account of the many substitutes. Usually this means that there is not such demand that there is a shortage (although not always, there are many rare luxury goods). That said...not sure how I feel about that. It's definitely not a luxury good sold at the brewery, but perhaps on the secondary market if people are charging hundreds of dollars.

It is a bit pointless to say that the price will fall if people stop being willing to pay $100 for a 4 pack. One of the reasons items like this are so hard to come by is because of the resellers. Even if the average beer geek is unwilling to pay $100+ cost of getting to middle of no where, there will still be plenty of people willing to pay the high costs on secondary market. If Demand was not so high on the secondary market, the price wouldn't be so high there either. This makes me feel less like this is a luxury good, although I admittedly don't know enough about that specific class of good and the subclasses that they might be broken down into. A rare diamond cannot be compared as there is only 1 of those. I don't know how frequently people will pay a comparable markup for something like a limited Ferrari (that is not vintage, afterall this isn't rare because it is old but because it is limited in production).

Seems more like TG is preying on knowin that the demand for this good is extremely inelastic, and despite it being 3-5 times the price of most non-BA stouts, they can still charge a fee just to enter the raffle, let alone mark up the cost on the bottle itself. Increase in price is not changing demand.

It is not in the sense that there is a commodity people need and a company has a monopoly on it so charges more. I used it in context with what other breweries have done in the past, so comparatively speaking.

With that said, the 12oz format is a welcome change. Double the bottles in the wild means that much more being traded and more reasonably for those that just want to try it.

The tickers make this a bit like a collectibles market as well, with a relatively high priced primary market and a very high priced secondary market.

I'm sorry, but this is incredibly wrong. 2,000 tickets at $100 a pop is $200,000 CASH in a single day. Not to mention a few thousand when they open after the event. TG typically has 2 events like this a year. That's almost $500k. They make a good chunk of their money off of events like this.

I have to imagine he meant relative to the rest of the yearly revenue. Tons of money, sure. But the cost for the headache combined with the lower profit margin for some of these bigger beers makes it less worth it, I'd imagine. (Full disclosure: I'm saying this as someone that generally dislikes TG's business practices and haven't spent a dime on them in several months. Also have no intention of entering this. Only pointing this out as I am not a TG apologist.)

No Headache and profit margin is high on MD VS ingredients, so nice profitable day for TG.

Indeed. They are objectively making a bunch of money in one day. But compared to yearly revenue? Probs very small percentage. By headache I meant all of the organization/planning compared to just selling beer.

Maybe three years later they've figured out a few better efficiencies but I'm guessing not enough to cut down on the significant brew time, especially since it's been only been brewed what, 2-3 times since this statement?

Registration just opted about an hour ago for MD. Register if you think the beer is worth it. If not, don't register.

    Thanks for posting.

Glad they have it open for 5 days. Not a fan of "flash sales," or lotteries.

<~~~~ butthurt there's no way in hell he can drive to pickup on August 19th. Just a horrible day/time/circumstances for me. Oh well.

^^^ exactly why TG's online lotteries system doesn't work. No offense to the op in New York... its on TG to use a better system for releases.

If they like lotteries then it should be an onsite signup.

Why does an onsite sign up make sense?

Can you imagine the hell people would raise if they had to go TO Decorah just to see if they would win?

Meh, I'm not driving three hours (6 round trip) from central Iowa to sign up for a chance to buy beer.
If people win and then don't buy a ticket or show up I'm sure they will find a way to sell any unclaimed bottles.

I'm pretty sure the KBBS and Assassin bottles they were selling for on-site consumption a few months back were a result of this.
