Was this thing glow in the dark or something? I am curious to see what effect their fining process had on London III, but if the haze/opaqueness is a natural byproduct of the specific brewing techniques you chose, it seems counterintuitive to mess with it. I mean, other than the fact that it's their beer and they can make it look how they want.

I've had multiple Solemn Oath, but nothing that has ever made me go out of my way for it. With that in mind, Old Nation was struggling to stay open until they came out with M-43 and Boxer. Now they can't produce enough.

Guys, you're assuming that the opacity concern was visual. Perhaps opaque in this context means the flavor was unfathomable. Maybe a taste-tester drank it, cried for three days, and then refused to eat anything except for lucky charms for a solid week. And then they were like, uh, maybe we should fine it and try again?

    I mean, it's just a guess...

It can be an approachable style for those who don't normally go for beer or dislike the traditional bitterness or bite associated with IPA.

Could also just be visually too much. Cosmic Juicebox was delicious, but I did ask myself at one point if perhaps we should start dialing back the haze before we get to dirty fish tank levels.

I have heard repeated comments along these lines, and think Josh Noel even mentioned it in his artricle about NEIPA's. I have yet to find one person, whether it be a casual craft drinker, macro drinker or non-beer drinker that has had some huge turnabout after tasting one of these NEIPA's. I don't think those are the folks that are driving these sales...it's us nerds.

I know quite a few people personally who would not drink an IPA but when handed a fresh Julius or other beer of the style have quickly changed their tune and are like, "Woah! THIS is an IPA? No way! I actually like it!"

My gf really dislikes traditional IPAs but really enjoys NE IPAs (some of them at least)

She's obviously not driving huge sales but I do think it's a more approachable take on the IPA for non-beer nerds

I am a big fan of their Lu kolsch - the rest of their beers I wouldn't buy again.

I will say it lies somewhere in between. The force is definitely stronger with the beer nerds. But I do know plenty of my wife's friends who I have introduced to the style and really enjoyed it compared to standard IPAs because of the low bitterness. [Then I swiftly knock it out of their hand and scoff at their aversion to bitterness.]

Noon Whistle did. They were the first guys we were talking about until FR and Corridor started hitting homers.

    Wasn't Mikerphone the first?

When Mikerphone was first making waves in Chicago their beers were routinely distributed throughout the city

I believe Mikerphone, Hop Butcher, and Maplewood all had NE Style beers released before Noon Whistle started releasing their NE style beers. Hailstorm might have already started releasing their cloud series as well.

But the brewer did originally get his start in the burbs. Working with Slapshot and (using urban legend facilities as well). So that qualifies as burby to me haha

I wasn't implying that Noon Whistle were the first to do the style. I was implying that they were one of the first to come out of no where and hit us with an A for the style. Maplewood had many reservations (Still do), Hop Butcher did not have consistency, and Hailstorm's Cumulus had struggles in the beginning as well. It is not a knock to any breweries at all, my point was saying to discredit a breweries attempt just because they are "burby" doesn't make much sense.
