I was at my local Whole Foods and saw they are now selling 4 packs of Sierra Narwhal IS. So far there have been no reviews. Anyone try this yet?

I'm pretty sure its the same Sierra Nevada Imperial Stout that won Gold at GABF this morning.

Somehow, I missed that this even existed. But as I thoroughly loved Ken & Fritz, and SN Stout is my go-to "dark beer" when I don't feel like breaking the bank, I will definitely be seeking this out.

Its my understanding that this beer is very similar to Ken & Fritz. Should be amazing.

It's at the Berkeley Bowl West. (Haven't tried it yet but I'm looking forward to cracking one open on a cold foggy summer night.)

For those who have tried it, how does it compare to the competition (Double Stout, Old Rasputin)?

I was at the Whole Foods in Valencia today and they didn't have it either. But then again, their selection is far less impressive than other WFs I have been in.

I picked up a 4 pack at the WF in San Rafael last night. I thought it was excellent - big, bitter chocolate with a silky smooth body.

It's on tap at Beer Revolution in Oakland if anyone wants to try it sans bottle.

It's days like this that I wish I lived back up in the bay, or in LA. Santa Barbara seems to be in some sort of weird beer-zone limbo. We don't get any RR, and everything else takes a couple of weeks to make it here. I'll be bugging my local BevMo now daily about Narwhal.

Is it anywhere in Sacramento? I keep looking around and have found nothing yet. It has already reached North Carolina. Really looking forward to trying it.

The gold was for Estate, Narwhal got Silver, but yes, Sn did confirm that the medal-winning stout was indeed Narwhal. I'm sure there was a reason, but I am surprised they didn't enter it with the official name - I figure that GABF would have been a great venue to create some buzz about the new release.
