Bit of an odd question here, but looking to stay for 1 night now in Waterbury either at the Best Western or the Fairfield Inn. We want to drink in town so no driving, is it walkable? I know its not far from the hotel to the centre but some of the roads don't exactly look too safe to walk along, especially at night. Is there a decent taxi service in Waterbury?

    Thanks for any help

Looks like Best Western is your best bet... google maps has a feature where you can select walking directions and it says it's less than a mile, about 17 minute walk to Blackback Pub (HIGHLY recommend checking out their taplist - I love that place).

    Map Here

I have walked from both. I felt much safer from the Best Western, especially at night. There were not sidewalks the whole way from the Fairfield. The hardest part from the Best Western is the hill to the hotel, and it's fine in summer. The rest of the walk is safe.

Thanks for that, is it a busy road that runs past Fairfield?

Will be fairly late at night I expect and it's not a huge distance, will have to just wear something bright!

Walked from downtown to the Best Western in a cold, winter drizzle. Still wasn't too bad. You could also try Uber. We took one into town, but the driver (only one in the area that night) said she was getting off the road early to ski the next day.

It's a pretty busy road, though there will be less traffic late at night. Wearing something bright and walking single file will help. If you think you might be a bit stumbly, I'd go with the BW.

Did you already look into the Old Stagecoach? It's much closer to the bars. I'm not sure if they still require 2 nights on weekends or not now that they have online booking capability.

Agree- check with Old Stagecoach Inn. Ideal location but not sure of requirements.

Yep you are all right, I had dismissed Stagecoach due to the look of the pictures that I first saw and the whole "shared bathroom" thing. Looked into it again and they have virtually every room available, cheaper than everything else, can fall over out of the pub and be on their doorstep AND they serve Alchemist beer in the bar! Why did I ever consider anywhere else??? Thanks for the advice

Old Stagecoach is the best, but I think they usually have a 2 night minimum. This may have changed. I like rooms 7 or 8 the best. I think room 8 has some ghost stories to go with it too!
Don't forget that the price includes a great breakfast.

100% agree on choice and breakfast ... Room 9 has two separate bedrooms, living area and kitchenette which can turn into a good deal if traveling with family or a group. I may be wrong but I don't recall it always being 2 night minimum (that said, I've always stayed 3+ nights).

Yeah, the 2 nights may not be true anymore. Or maybe just during ski season.
