Don't mess up traffic patterns, streeet names, or food recommendations in a chicago thread and expect it to be left alone.

I dunno, I just took it as a statement from a true beer fan. Something like, "well, I'm heading to Chicago from KY and figured that since Wisconsin is right near Chicago, I might as well hit up New Glarus and hop over to nearby Decorah for TG!"

Distance is relative when you're trying to get your beer.

Gummy Vortex is incredible. Great mouth feel, very juicy, with a spectacular hop bite on the end.

In and out in 5 minutes and showed self control by only getting 1 four pack! Can't wait to try this one again.

Vortex was the first gummy I tried from them, and was super impressed by it.

The initial impressions of the cans make me more excited. Glad my mom works down the block?

The Vortex is great, but I hope they bring the Apocalypse back soon

Any chance you could PM me your recipe? Already do all grain and was looking at Pliny clones for this weekend but this sounds better (citra/galaxy).

Gotta give a shout out to Hop Butcher - Skrap Metal is fantastic. The aroma on this is killer - so fruity and pungent. Mild hop bite on the back end adds some nice balance. Its not as thick as some of the other NE style DIPAs Ive been drinking lately and I find Im enjoying this more because of that - gives it a livelier light feel. Hopefully this is a sign of them righting the ship and reclaiming some of those earlier homer moments.

Edit: Oh and Im not getting any Belgian yeast flavors!

Obviously Chicago has come a very long way with this style, but does anyone think any of the usual suspects in this thread have a shot to become the next Tree House or Monkish or does Chicago have a long way to go still?

Sure, I mean, I could see Forbidden Root or Corridor, or some of the other breweries reaching the level of Tree House, Trillium, Monkish, etc ... Some would argue they are already there. I guess the question is, as they improve and other breweries around the county improve with the demand that was there for the first producers of the NE style IPAs - like Tree House - still be there if there are so many more options on the market. Selfishly, I wouldn't mind seeing our Chicago breweries continue to improve but stay more regionally popular.

    Very important detail!!

I'm guardedly optimistic for their next hazy IPA.
