I wish they would just rename Morning Delight "Life Isn't Fair."

I was more or less making a plea for something new that is both delicious AND readily available. The gap between Rover Truck and the whale stouts is too wide. MD would be the perfect fit for that spot but they've already put it on a pedestal. God forbid they should consider bottling it without wax, glasses, and a fancy box. I'd like to see them brew it 4 times a year like King Sue, and sell it in 12oz singles for $10-12 each. I'm sure there's plenty of profit margin left in that plan!

I think when you ask for that, you're essentially asking for a shittier version of a great beer.

I'd like to see semi-regular bottles of Term Oil. Maybe have it 4ish times a year, all having different variants? In addition to the whale releases. That's a lot of brewing, but would get more of their great stuff in people's hands.

Or given the proximity of TG to the Upper Iowa River they could rename it "Cry Me A River".

It's a lot more stout then TG is used to producing but just look at Bottle Logic and Cycle. Both have come on the scene after TG but in terms of barrel aged releases they do a lot more beer. Their quality is very high too. IMO some of these new breweries have sped past Toppling in terms of creativity, special releases, etc. Over the last couple of years, and now with the new brewery, TG seems more like a Founders then they do like Side Project, Bottle Logic, Cycle type.

I'm pretty sure you'll never see Term Oil again. Those were one off barrels that were supposed to be blended into a previous batch of Assassin or SR71 and deemed to be not ready yet. So they were left out of the blend and given more time to age with some receiving additional flavors like vanilla & cinnamon. Maybe they'll make something new in the future and use the Term Oil name because it has a high quality reputation. In fact, that sounds like a great plan! It'll be tough to mirror the delicious stout we remember but if it's at least better than Rover Truck it'll be a step in the right direction.

You managed to include all of the ridiculousness of this thread in one post. "Why didn't TG give ME multiple opportunities to waste my money?"

That's it folks. Close it down. Go home. The paddle sniffers have won. The price of a "just OK" beer has now been set at ~$4 per oz.

Definitely right up there in the same vein as the stuff JWB does that people cream their shorts over. Very fruit expressive, and nicely tart. Oh, and can't forget the nearly neon hot pink color.

A winner. Needs to go in bottles and get sent out for everyone to enjoy. But that Suemosa...not so much...

I'm not sure what a paddle sniffer is, but my point was that at the present secondary price, it is not worth going after. It is a good beer, yes, but even after talking to other people who have had all of the other batches, it isn't as great as previous batches. It's not just my opinion, but others as well. You also have to take into account people inflating their ratings and opinions because it's rare and they've never had it before.

Yeah, I'd love to try it. I haven't had much time to head out to Decorah recently so I've missed out. I've heard this recent batch is much better than the first iteration.

I understand this thread has a hyperbolic tendency to push what some consider "good" to "just ok", even in the same post. But personally, I would not recommend spending $50 on a 12oz bottle of much anything, let alone a "just ok" beer made every year. So, I guess my complaint is that you didn't go far enough. If you really think the beer is "just ok", then don't recommend people pay $50!

paddle sniffer - noun- someone who chases after sniffs of mash paddle related products

Edit: the "paddle sniffer" part is a joke. did not mean to belittle you or anything

I don't know who exactly you're talking to, but I've heard exactly zero people who've actually tried it say that. And I ran into ~50 people throughout the weekend and discussed it. Blanket consensus, including my own opinion, was it was much better than previous batches. I deleted my existing years old review in order to construct a new one.

this is encouraging. The batch that came out alongside yellow wax Elijah Craig BA Assassin, first time it was in bottles (12 oz, waxed!) I swear it was every bit as good as the silver wax KBBS that followed it. The base beer as good as the BA version is not something I can frequently say but for MD and Abraxas at their best I believe it's true.

And honestly the smokiness and intensity of the maple makes MD taste barrel aged in its own right. I've had a number of BA stouts that neither had smoked malt nor maple in them where the oak contributed maple-esque and smoky-like elements. This just does that in a much more forward manner, yet isn't cloyingly sweet either.

It'll be better than Rover truck. Progress is still progress no matter how small.

DF was a standout for me and the wife this last weekend. Great fruit forward, well balanced sour that was crushable. Had multiple pours and it was hard to put the glass down. Would buy bottles by the arm full if available.
