Yes - different beers. HS will get access to the RS beer.

I don't know about you all, but I can't wait for On Tuesdays, We Brunch (brunch-infused blend for our favorite day of the week).

I will say, I'm not at all a fan of the ambiguous "thresholds" for winning additional beers. It would be cool if they did it as a surprise without announcing it, but putting it in the membership details is just a cheap sales/marketing trick that is somewhat insulting considering its aimed at a group of people who already buy a lot of their beer.

I’ve been a RS member for 3 years now and going into this year decided it would be my last even though I’ve really enjoyed it. I joined the Modern Times membership this year because it was a lot closer. I haven’t even made it into The Bruery this year due to the ever growing family obligations especially when a trip up and back took 6 hours.

Having seen the proposed list for the year it’s hard to pass but my time has come to an end. I’m glad to see that a smaller bottle format might be on the horizon. I have so many bottles I can’t get through but would have if they had been smaller bottles. I’m bummed that finally there will be vanilla and coconut imperial stouts. Seems like for years I’ve seen the request and requested those myself. Les Ronces is freaking great! Blue BLLs might be my favorite Bruery beer right now. The cream inspired beers sound like they could be really good. I really loved Tout Mais Le Coller. That’s the one collaboration I always wished would make a comeback.

I’m going to load up on a few more bottles before the end of the year, always keep my eye open on what’s up for sale and hopefully be able to stop in once a year. If any PS members are questioning whether or not to try RS, I say definitely give it a try. It’s been a blast and some great beer.

Anyone have any idea how big Hoarders is going to be in 2018? I know a few years ago they said they were basically capping the size of it, but seems like quite a few invites went out this year. Did it get bigger or are that many people dropping it?

Man I'd be so jealous if I even lived as close to the Bruery as San Diego! You SoCal people have no stomach for long road trips :stuck_out_tongue:

    - signed, someone who drives for 6 hours just to get to Los Angeles, let alone OC/SD

My guess is it's getting bigger. They send invites out before people drop out.

Well shit... I was positive I'd be staying RS and passing on my HS invite since I don't live nearby and won't take advantage of events and such... but the additional bottles for HS combined with the extra 5% discount are making a VERY compelling case...

Does it seem like barley wine has been replaced by imperial brown ale in a few of these allocations? Would anyone know how this would impact the flavors? Or the reasoning behind this?

Potentially stupid question, but is it at all related to distribution rules? Or are most alcohol laws based on abv not names/types?

I can't remember the exact reason given but we were told earlier that despite the change in style from "barleywine" to "imperial brown ale", Mash & Coconut still had the same recipe for the base beer.

Earlier in this thread either Patrick or Joel weighed in that "barleywine" kind of sucks from a marketing standpoint. Don't think about perspective of society members and beer experts - think about more casual buyers who buy Bruery in retail shops. To some, barleywine sounds scary. To others, it can be confusing based on the huge divergence these days between American and English style barleywines (though with that thinking, I'm not sure why they don't abandon "saison" since the variance in that style is even crazier).

@BruerJoel I saw Mocha Wednesday wasn't listed, is that out this year? Its my favorite BT variant.
Overall, I like the list of included beers, I was looking for a list with limited sours, due to being in other clubs with only sours and I got that (only 1 obvious one and I guess blue bbl.'s is but I don't really considered it a true sour). Not sure if I will renew, but 50/50 is now closer to 75/25 to renew.

I will say the next year sounds like it has a pretty sweet list, but is very stout heavy up front. Makes it hard on those of us who lean towards the sour side.

We'll have plenty of sours from Bruery Terreux - have no fear!
