I really hope you won the lottery with that '09. I am scared to open the one bottle I have of it.

I had two of the 09. They were both soured, so I didn't care for them, but my friends who like sours loved them.

I have a '12 I should open soon. Should be just about perfect.

A small group of friends was considering getting together with a couple of brewery friends that work in QC and such and having an off-flavor share / learning session. Would be cool to see what I know and I expect to be completely humbled by new information. Should be fun.

I think I read Abyss 09 was result of the barrel aging as opposed to the brewing... So I guess see if that jives with the other off flavor tests. Have fun!

You might be the first person ive ever heard of that (preferred?) a blended version over the 100% BA version. Cuir especially I borderline disliked in the blended version and loved in the 100%.

I enjoy it when they do the isolated/unique barrel treatments but I think that one year they really got carried away with too many. Id welcome the option to buy different anniversaries ala blended percentages, 100% BA and different barrel treatments - but not like 9 different ones in a year.

I mean, if you get rid of the new American oak and the tequila barrel there were:

    Cognac
    Tawny Port
    Madeira
    Rye
    Rum
    Portuguese Brandy

All of which are absolutely delicious. Port and Madeira Sucre are up there with my favorite beers ever, so I'd be very happy if we got some of those treatments again.

Edit: About the blended Cuir, I can see his point, it's a much more complex beer. The dark fruit flavors are the prominent flavors instead of the barrel, both of which are delicious.

I too loved all the barrel treatments of Bois and Sucre and bought several of each but I also recall people bitching about them, basically centered around cost. It's one thing to buy six of the Anniversary beer every year but it's another altogether to buy six each of six different versions of the same beer. The cost got a little out of hand for those who really wanted to stock up. That's why I was surprised we saw the Scotch barrel of the Poterie last year, I thought after the pissing and moaning about various treatments they would never do it again. I was happy to be wrong but I don't think it will be a continual thing either.

If we had 1-3 barrel treatments a year that would be great, especially if they tend to keep the same ones as then you can attempt a vertical of the barrel.

Bois & Sucre's was just daunting and I don't think any of us appreciated the variety until a few years after the fact.

    I did find this amusing.

"Stop making so much beer that I want to buy, because I am required to max out on everything and it cost too much."

Broadly speaking they were all excellent and more similar than different. I thought Abyss 2010 had maybe peaked and 2013 arguably had the best balance. Enjoy!

+1 from me. My first exposure was last year's Archiversary, so since only four were available to us noobs that was a little less daunting.

Drank my You Know What Time It Is! over the weekend and thought it was fantastic. I almost regret not buying more bottles of it.

I'd love to see a Chronology Black Tuesday series. Untreated, 6 months, Regular BT (12mos), 18 months and 24 months. It'd be fun to see how BT evolves!

I bet the upcoming beer called "Tell No Tales" was meant to come out today for Pirate Day but got delayed and someone in their marketing department is really sad that their sweet campaign got tossed.

What is the beer? All I can see is that it's a dark ale.

Ha! Nope - we're on schedule. They just scheduled International Talk Like a Pirate Day too early.
