Have you experienced any good beer Karma lately?

    I just got back from New Orleans and I have come across a bit of good beer karma, not anything mind blowing but feel-good in any case!

    First, while walking through the French quarter a few nights ago (and smoking a cigar with my gilr-friend which I thought would never-ever-happen as she “hates” cigars) I found three of those cool 4.5 oz. "Barbary" Beer Taster Glasses that you see at brew pubs. I found the glasses by some bushes close to Jackson Square, they looked like they needed a home; they will be put to good use :slight_smile:

    Next, while in New Orleans I had one chance Monday night to buy beer on my trip so I looked for the best place possible and came up with Stein’s Deli. I called the place to find out they were closed on Mondays :slight_frown: then the guy asks if all I need is beer, when I said yes he tells me if you can make it here within the next thirty minutes I will let you buy some beer! :confused: Awesome!!! I rushed to Stein’s and came home with two bombers of clown-shoes Chocolate Sombrero, an Even More Jesus, and a Brooklyn Chocolate Stout. I forgot to ask if they had Cantillon, but I guess I am pushing my luck!

    Finally, while in New Orleans I was waiting for an online order of Marshal Zhukov’s I had placed a while ago, this order is getting shipped from Florida, my stupid bank went ahead and put a hold on my card since it was an out of state purchase, fair enough. So I called to resolve the issue and an employee at the store told me they would try my card again. Then I find out they still could not use my card… Long-ass-story short, I am getting some Zhukov in the mail soon!!

    Well, not long ago a cousin of mine found out I enjoy craft beer and he bought me a couple of Missisippi Mud Black and Tans. I really liked the gesture. In return I hooked him up with a few stronger brews like a 2012 Parabola, a Gonzo 2010, some Old Rasputin, and a stone 16th anniversary.

    Would this count sir?

    I don't want to offend, but I've always believed that karma is just another BS take on what is - at heart - a egocentric concept. You give something to get something back, and that's not altruistic and very buddhist-y any way you turn it. I see it as more of a "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" thing. I hook people up with good beer, they get me good beer. I go out of my way to give them a nice extra, they do the same for me. That's an integral part of the BeerAdvocate spirit.

    I've gotten some amazing extras that I didn't really feel I deserved, but I take no pride in them because of some previous achievement or act of generosity on my part. If anything, experience has taught me to be less generous, as more often than not the world will bite you in the ass if you're too giving and generous. I can only be thankful of good beer friends that hook me up with some great beer, and I can only hope that they feel the same about me. No guilt, no karma cosmic power BS, just healthy fun with friends and great beers to share and experience.

    Lol, look at me being semi-philosophical there.

    What would the opposite of this be? Ive shared some amazing beers with friends, but have not had the generosity returned. I've pretended to be all "holier than thou" and pass it off as I just enjoy sharing good beer, which to an extent is true, but 2 years of giving and not receiving just plain sucks!

    I went for a run a few weeks ago and came across a box of Snifters, Flutes, and Wine Glasses outside of a church. I picked up a few snifters and ran the rest of my run while holding onto glassware. Got some strange looks but I didn't care.

    Well yeah if you only give for the sake of receiving then yeah that sucks. But thats pretty sad.

    You need new friends man!! Well, maybe you just need to find more beer-geek friends!! Most of my friends are BMC lovers and are happy to taste the beer I have to share so I don't expect anything amazing in return. I know of one awesome dude in my town who hooked me up with my first heady topper!! If you read this Josh, I got a Marshall Zhukov with your name on it dude!!

    I was cat sitting for friends of mine and they told me they had got me a gift. I figured it was just some SN or something in the fridge since they're not huge beer drinkers. I walk in and sitting on the table was two Lost Abbey Teku glasses. I guess they heard me talking about them at trivia one night. Pretty awesome surprise.
