Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

My problem is with the 12 ounce can. Give me 16 oz cans. Charge me an extra buck or two. I just want the larger format can.

 

Pretty sure I've missed out on a few Corridor beers solely because of @JJH1018

 

I was shocked when I pulled a can out of the plastic 4 pack can holder and thought "What the hell, where is the rest of the can?" This is like shrinking cereal boxes, first it is price going up, then it is product size going down..... Over haze looked the part, but if you gave me that in a blind taste test I would have guessed it was Juice Pants. Marz is getting closer and taking the right steps in the NEIPA game, but they still have a ways to go on it.

 

Haha I really haven't bought that many crowlers from Corridor . You guys make it seem like I walk out with 7 or 8 every time I go there. I keep my limit to 4. Except that one time I bought 6...

 

4 crowlers is a lot!

The last time I was there to get some Ryders crowlers. There was a guy that had a backpack full of growlers and two in each hand as well. He filled at least 7 or 8 growlers!

For serious, who wants to start an underground crowler bike delivery business with me?

 

I would need to see a mock-up of this crowler bike as well as a powerpoint on the physics of riding the crowler bike underground....

 

Haha. Nope I've only every gotten one growler from Corridor. I couldn't believe how many he pulled out of that bag! And like I said, the 4 others he carried in.

Instantly made me feel less guilty about my crowler binges!

 

I wonder if this is the same guy I saw. I was sitting at the bar there two or three weeks ago and a guy walks in with a backpack and orders TEN crowlers...I think it was eight Cosmic Juiceboxes and two Ryders. He fit about six in the backpack and took the other four in the crowler bags.

 

Could've been the same guy. And he could've gotten 10 when I was there too. It was a Saturday afternoon so it was packed.

 

I might have to go as that guy for Halloween. If I have to drop $$$ on a costume, it may as well be one I can drink....

 

Rankings of things I’ve had around town over the past week -

1. Forbidden Root - Night Moth

2. More - Strong Hand

3. Hubbard’s Cave - V6

4. More - DDH Dusty

I would recommend them all. Night Moth is not only delicious but unique. Both More’s are excellent examples of the style and look how someone would describe a NE ipa more than anything I’ve seen recently. V6- return to form, perfect carbonation, juicy without being sweet and no malt.

 

Has anyone tried the latest batch of Astronaut Orange Juice?

Also, the newest batch of Cirrus "NE Oat IPA" is a dud. Usually I think this is the strongest offering out of the cloud series, but this lacks the haze, mouth feel, and tastes very off. Every other batch previous to this has been on point.

 

Yea, I just stopped buying the Hailstorm NE IPAs completely. Every time you buy a four pack it's like a surprise of what you are going to get. And most of the time it's a bad surprise.

 

Feel the same way. No consistency in the clouds.

 

saw that the head brewer of hailstorm, after winning gold at GABF for IPA with praire madness , said he prefers hazy ipas. it's kind of amazing to me that if that is his passion they can't dial in some consistency in any of their 4 hazy ipa options. i get batch to batch variability but the wide swings we experience batch to batch just seems odd IMO
