If you can't absorb the cost of one barrel ($100 or less, right?), I'd hate to see what happened if you brewed a bad batch.

The problem is the barrel is an up-front cost, whereas a bad batch you can still sell (and I'd say lots of places just do sell their bad stuff).

EF it, I'll take a risk. when it comes down to it, I've spent 45 bucks drinking beer at a bar on any given night. I'll take the chance. If it bombs and I'm a fool for spending my money.... well I'm a fool. But I've seen people spend their money on tons of beer because of the name on the bottle. Hate all you want but I'm giving these guys a shot.

Looks like they've toned down the use of rarity as a selling point on the website. They're also no longer describing the beers as "sour," only "wild."

They're still $45 and come with a chunk of wood though.

Theses rolled out to stores. Anyone open their wood box yet?

Yeah I admit I've looked a couple times to see if a first review has posted yet... don't see any. I'm really curious after all the commotion this raised.

I think this is a bit gimmicky , but... This is generating hype for these small brewers who need to get the word out and the product sounds interesting. IMO Too many people HERE think too highly of their own opinions of beer and base too much on names and ratings. If no on told you Founders was good, how would you know? Get out there and try beer.. Respect beer. Dont be critical of someone/something you don't know. At least these brewers are trying something and not just sloshing out adjunct junk

Whoa there. We do have smaller format bottles out now, though not in 4 packs yet.

We'll possibly move to 4 packs when we get a bottling line. Personaly, I buy a 6 or 4 pack maybe once a year...I have to admit, I don't really understand the format...anyone beer savy enough to be on this site should know why they were invented. If you don't like marketing; why would you argue for a format that is 100% about marketing? Right now we just aren't putting money toward's cardboard landfill or a bottling line that churns out product.

People should also know that brewers usually have good reasons to use corks and caged bottles..for instance, inexpensive crowned bottles can't withstand the carbonation levels in our saisons.

    Cheers!

The format allows an individual to enjoy beer without having to consume 22oz or greater of one beer in one sitting.
Also, because of economics of scale, it's almost always cheaper per oz. for a consumer to buy a 4-pack or 6-pack. Do you really not understand why they would be interested in that? For beer geeks, it allows them to buy a 6-pack, enjoy a few and maybe also trade a few, probably for the same price as the larger format,.

Is this a serious question? Anyone crying for 6pks isn't doing it because they like the carrier, it's because they like the price. If those bombers were $3 ($10/6pk equiv), it would be a non-issue.

Pardon, I'm not saying I don't understand why people want them. As I said, we plan on doing them. What I am trying to say is that it is a format that isn't about the beer, its about selling as much as possible. Which is fine. I didn't mean that the carrier is the draw. 6 packs were invented to market to women and increase total volume.

The value thing is clear, but it's a function of economies of scale. To access the 6 pack market you really need to make a lot of beer and keep costs down or loss lead until you are that big. We also need to make sure we aren't comparing apples to oranges: $10/6 pk beer isn't what is in most $10/750ml bottles.

    Uhh back to Oncemade...
I got two of these, and sampled the beers on the release day. Both taste fantastic but could use a little time to really hit their sweet spot IMO... brandy could mellow out a bit with Backlash and same goes for the raspberry in Nightshift's. But that's just my personal taste, I have no doubt that these beers can definitely stand on their own as they are right now.

Love the idea of this collaboration and really looking forward to the Jack's Abby one. Hoping there will be a lower pricing tier where I can get the beer without the awesome boxes and goodies. I really like the hand signed wax stamped letter and the pine box and coasters and everything but it would kill me to have to throw these nice boxes away on the next go around, but I can't find a need for a bunch of pine boxes hanging around my apartment.

Please, lets not derail this thread and get it locked as I'd like to know what people's thoughts are on the oncemade beers. We are already discussing about two bottles that come in excessive packaging so a 6pk discussion seems pointless right now.

I probably would if there was not a middleman involved this this project ... I assume the pricing would have been less if the to brewers just got together and did it on their own.

Both are solid, but the Night Shift one is definitely my favorite. Really complex, flavorful, and should only get better with some age. Very drinkable for 8.6% ABV too. The Backlash offering is a little more fruit-forward and tart from the raspberries, whereas the Night Shift has more barrel character IMO.
