It's true. My best friend was stationed in Stuttgart, came back to the states, and just now got redeployed to Kaiserslaturn. The amount of Cantillon, Westvleteren, Drie Fonteinen, etc that he brings back with him is obscene. Thankfully, he generally stays with us while on leave...

We are misusing the terms "good beer" and "bad beer"
Bad beer is beer which has faults. Gone to vinegar, off tastes such as acetaldeyhde and so on.
To use bad beer to mean "beer I don't like" or even more illogical "beer from big companies" is hardly well informed. The big brands became big by giving people what they like.To them ,it is good beer. Not everybody equates quality with flavour levels or novelty. Just what they enjoy.
To equate craft with quality is pure nonsense.

    Well said.

OP, all the poll is really telling me is what types of jobs the people responding to the poll have.

I've also been in every category except retired but only started drinking craft beer since starting a white collar job almost 5 years ago - I did not drink beer at all during those earlier phases of life.

That's exactly what I do. As an effort to be healthier,
Yes, maybe an ill-informed term, but that's exactly why I put bad beer in quotations. Do I think that macro brews are "bad"? Sure, some don't taste good to me but you're right, that doesn't mean it's "bad beer".

I voted blue collar because that's what I am.

Most people I know in other fields seem to stick with Mich Ultra, Bud Light, or Coors Light.

So they sell bud cask where you are? They do make bottle conditioned beer ya know. And some of us heathens don't have cask at every pub on the corner, we do manage to get by though. More seriously, isn't cask one of the better kinds of craft beer? Fresh, local, small brewers?

I mean, realistically, anyone who comments on this site between 8:00 and 6:00 would almost need to be white collar, right? The question is certainly valid, just not sure about the poll.

Cask is not a beer style, it'a method of dispense which allows the beer to develop to its optimum level..I have had some superb cask ale from big breweries.
Bottle conditioning goes a little way towards this but it is not unknown for brewers to filter the beer and reseed it with special yeast.
We were very lucky when the small brewery revolution began in the 70s because 1) most pubs still had cellars and beer engines and 2) cask beer was known to pretty well all drinkers. It was regarded as a sign of quality. Also the brewers needed much less equipment, just drop the beer into cask, prime it and send it out.
. Perversely of course keg beer was introduced as a way of avoiding the problems of cask - particularly spoilage and waste - but at a cost of being unpleasant to drink compared to well kept cask.

Yup, in agreement about cask being good stuff. Here in MA, we have a spring and fall NERAX cask ale events helped put on by CAMRA, so good so awesome. One of the few beer events I make every year. I get it's a method of dispense, however, anything in cask is going to be craft beer correct?

The poll's question of, "What work demographic are you from?" means this is really a poll of the demographics of Beer Advocate site users, which is not necessarily the same as all craft beer drinkers.

Could it be that office workers just have more access to computers? That could be throwing off this highly scientific study

That also means that the question asked in the poll is not the same question asked in the title. I did not realize that until I read your post. Reading the responses ,it looks like others did not either.
