At some point, won't there be some sort of backlash from Ontarians about these Toronto only things? They had an exclusive Whiskey thing yesterday, BCBS, same thing with BCBS the last time. Every Ontarian pays for the LCBO, they should all have a chance at these products, no? You want to run it as a government monopoly, everyone should get the same access...

That might be fair but we will see. The LCBO is like the monarchy. Not to be questioned by the common man.
I think that the idea that has been floated around here of it being dispersed via a lottery system might be the most fair. Would it benefit me? No.
In the end it just beer. I have to remind myself of this regularly. Lol.

Sure it is, but not cool when you're paying for a service that only a certain segment gets access to.

For the regular? Or are some of the variants going to be available? It will take far less effort to trade for one than it will to buy one. And I say that living fairly close by.

I have been in contact with my MPP about this BS with the LCBO and one off distributions in Toronto only. 2/3 of the Ontario population lives outside Toronto, so distribution should reflect that. It will fall on deaf ears though...the only thing politicians care about with regard to the LCBO is revenue.

We pay for lots of services we don't need. It's like universal health care. Schools. Ya I want my beer but it is just beer. If I lived in QC I'd be happy with access to Cantillon! Tilquin and the lambic market.

Yes but it's done as a draw and whoever wins gets to pick it up at the SAQ closest to them, wherever they may be in the province, as it should be in Ontario. As for the rest, all the services you listed are available everywhere, I really don't see a parralel.

I'm gonna start tweeting about it regularly. Social Media traction usually yields results.

I'd also write to bliggers more than anyone else

Dang. They are selling BCBS at $22.99/500ml. Thats not worth it to me. Wtf. It's only $10-13 in the states. Ridiculous

Yeah, it also sat on the shelves for a little while in some places. That said, still less expensive than a full tank of gas to go get it in the States

I asked lcbo and they gave me the price. Unless there is so much hype they decided to jack it up just a little. Idk either way. I'm complaining but then again I'll probably end up going. CBS will be more worth it in my opinion. I'll pay that high price. Only to make some trades in the states. Idk how much distribution will release of CBS in the states.

Agreed - I'm all in for CBS (barring a similar debaucle to the initial KBS release), but will secure BCBS elsewhere.

Distribution will be wide (all states they're in). How many bottles they see though I have no idea

That was the price of VR a couple years ago........lol.

Most people in Ontario don't care about these releases........just a handful of beer nerds. They ain't gonna spend the resources to dristro small amounts of beer across a vast Province at a loss. Makes no sense. You want to live in the Middle-of-Nowhere......great. Enjoy your cheap real estate........your access to other things will be limited.

The LCBO is mostly focused on wine. They can't be bothered to put much effort into these sorts of things. An online sale would be fair.....but again.......the cost and effort for 200 bottles doesn't make sense.

Additionally, Goose Island wants to use this as a marketing event for their new brewpub.........which is located...........IN TORONTO. Of course they are going to have an event in Toronto to promote their pub. No one in Sudbury is patronizing a brewpub in Toronto.

All in all........is a ridiculous price and I couldn't be bothered.........would not buy even if I didn't have to jump through hoops to get it. Will be much easier and cheaper to trade for.

Sorry, don't want to offend anyone, but parts of that post are a little ignorant. There are plenty of places in Ontario that aren't "in the middle of nowhere", but I guess to know that you have to realize that Toronto isn't the center of the universe.

As for the rest, an online release isn't more expensive than an in-store one. And it's not only the BCBS that does have ties to the new brewpub IN TORONTO, it's the whiskey event, the Utopias release, etc. As I said, the LCBO is funded by Ontarians and, since it wants to be a monopoly, everyone should get fair access to what it offers.
