Prop 2013 is the best variant to me. Bramble is close though.

For coffee a lot of people keep saying green peppers but I don’t get that at all. That’s what is great about Beer, taste is subjective.

Have one 2010 coffee bomber left, also used black cat espresso beans, need to do a 7 year comparison.

Beer it forward man. If you can't get another, message me and we can maybe figure out a trade or I'll just send you one. Beer karma. Pass it on.

EDIT - I love this thread. Thanks for indulging me at times. Always love all the opinions on the beer and all other angles. I have to admit, and no offense to the econ folks in here, but I start to glaze over a bit when you all get fired up.

Your yearly reminder that Bourbon County is .00001% of all the beer AB sells in a year. I guarantee that no one in middle management even knows what it is. The sales of all BCBS in a year amounts to a rounding error in Bud Light sales.

Catching up here after a weekend away ... was there some kind of controversy with the bcs release?

It was mostly puppies shooting double rainbows out of their eyes. It was sweet. Oh, and it went totally Lord of the Flies minus a conch shell. But other than that, all good.

Okay I'm seeing where you are coming from now. No one likes paying more but higher prices do have some benefit:
Less demand for the product thus easier to get (ie not waiting in line over night or taking the day off to chase bottles)
Less need to rely on secondary markets therefore reducing the incentive for resellers/hordrers to buy up bottles they don't intend for personal consumption.
Rewarding the producer of the high demand product thus incentivising them to create more quantity/variety.

Ive been thinking, how did Barleywine become a permanent fixture in the lineup? It's a great beer don't get me wrong, I enjoy it every year. But, I have to wonder, with it being somewhat lower on the desirability scale, and often times considered a consolation prize by some, why not change it out and spend those resources on making more of other variants? Or why not rotate it in or out in certain years?
I think Original should be the only permanent BCBS. Prop too, but since they change the recipe every year that's different. I'd even be willing to have Coffee not be yearly a staple to make way for more of the unique flavors they come up with each year.
I bought a case of Regular and had the option to get a case of Barleywine if I wanted, at a Binny's at 930am on Black Friday.... So I cant help but wish the amount of it available was instead replaced by one of the yearly one offs.

    Wrong.

    :stuck_out_tongue:

But seriously, barleywine is my favorite of the variants and I love that I can get it easily each year.

I feel like you pretty much nailed it here bud. Of course it comes down to money and how much binnys or goose wants to drop on security/staff.

I too feel like this year was a bust for me. L.P. binnys was a shitshow, I'm utterly shocked. I'm a veteran to L.P. and I forget every year the amount of trash that accumulates. Now I know it's not just outsiders, but goddamn, Chicago is dirty enough, please help keep my city clean and pick up your crap. Also, blatant cutters can go and die. I'm looking at you Moby-looking guy plus your mule! Dude had a windbreaker on, no hat no gloves, said he "Went to the taproom and drank for a few hours" BULL!!!! No one saw you before in our area and we called you on that. I swear someone's gonna get knifed one year!

Only got reg and bw at L.P., showed up at 6am. Went to Beer temple today, was 11th in line. Was shocked again today that their max allotment was 2 reg 1 var, they tend to sell more, suppose that it's because they opened the taproom. I think they only sold half a case of prop

Now, I have a proposal, might be unfair or whatever, but I dont care, I'm a local.....2 lines, 1 line for Chicago residents with photo Id or utility bill lol and 1 line for everyone else, let in 2 Chicagoans to 1 campers at a time.

One way or another, binnys figure your stuff out or dont host it anymore. Either ticketed and timed release or whatever, but I'm sure any way done will be exploited somehow from a certain type of people. Maybe goose can take it over at their places and have more control of quantities

I've always assumed a big part of it is that they used to age it in third use barrels after it held regular. Only changed after the infection issues in 2015. I just figured they were reusing a resource that they already had on hand. Regardless, I love it and am glad it is back every year. I'll probably pop one tomorrow night and am looking forward to that.

I do love the idea of changes to keep it fresh. I actually like the BW more than anything. I was able to get more northwoods and coffee than BW by choice but only to swap for BCBW with a friend that could get it easy. Got to try all at FOBAB.
So fun to hear how some love/hate the coffee or northwoods. I love coffee stouts but somehow BCCS is just not my cup of tea. Now I get to be the BW rocks guy! Just a personal preference.

Spot on assessment ... I’ll continue to be happy that this Black Friday mess won’t prevent me from easily accessing a great variant ... reliably great every year

95% of beer nerds in Chicago are transplants from other states anyway. I don't dispute your concept, but I say instead of a current utility bill, require a birth cert to verify you bleed Chicago, not just some douche from Iowa/Wisconsin/Michigan/Ohio/etc with city dreams and moved to Chicago in the last 5 years.

With straight jacket coming to cans, I have no need to buy bcs bareywine ever again.

That being said, I did pop a 2014 BW a few weeks ago, and that beer ages beautifuly. I also liked it much more in 3rd use barrels, and in a 12oz format.
