    @SoCalBeerIdiot

About a month ago our local Homebrew shop, the owner is part of our Homebrew club, sent an email from the casting director from Beerland. They had a survey asking if anyone would be interested. It was funny because their age requirement was something like 25 - 35. A lot homebrewers in our group including me are over that age threshold. I guess 39 is too old to be cool for Beerland.

Personally found the show very awkward and too boring to watch, which is saying a lot because it’s a show about beer my favorite hobby.

    Here are the questions:
    Name, Age

    Photo

    Occupation

    City, State

    Years brewing?

    Why do you brew?

What brews might you have ready in Jan/Feb?

Any unique ingredients or brew techniques?

Where do you DRINK your brew? Unique locations/events/gatherings etc?

What makes you YOU? What other hobbies outside of beer, lively activities you do (that you might bring a beer to!)

How has homebrewing impacted your life/family/community?

I think the awkwardness is what they are going on. I will watch anything on tv (show it to Mikey, he'll watch anything). I can pretty much gauge what beer she is going to choose and which she doesn't like. Definitely didn't like the Japanese ladies Belgian tea beer, that was quite obvious. Watching this show reminds me of watching guys are bars trying to pick up girls out of their league. Brutal but funny at the same time.

Lol. I might have to rewatch it just because of this post and the train wreck aspect.

I’m not into the show either for the same reason as you and several others on here.

In regards to the beer, I’ve had many of them and always found Golden Road’s beer to be average at best. I’m from LA (up until I moved to CO 2 years ago) and Golden Road expanded extremely quick. It caught on in LA because they have good marketing and they were nearly the only game in town for craft beer made in LA for a while. People forget that up until recently, LA had a craft beer scene but very few breweries (not to mention how few canned/bottled). I truly believe Golden Road would never have had its success had the competition been like San Diego or even Orange County, for that matter.

I remember a homebrew pils was knocked for not being crystal clear and didnt produce substantial head. The guy said he did not filter it to not dilute flavor because he enjoyed his ingredient choices. I thought it was unfair so knock it for not being "traditional" especially with todays beers of choice because im sure it was a good beer and aesthetics are not as important especially when it comes to homebrew. Or Maybe im just being fussy.

Wolf Among Weeds is incredibly bitter but enjoyable once you're used to it

Tart Mango Cart was ok but felt like a spritzy mango soda. Good for hot weather though. I pass golden road up but they are on the average spectrum for me based on my preferences.

Definitely Body. Maybe Meyhem. Just can't beat all three (or four) of them together. The Hawaii show was proof of this.

That's like a good friend who sagely stated, "I hate people and they're everywhere these days". I don't fully follow this dictum, but I sure do get it.

I love the France/catacombs episide where meyhem had garbage bags taped around his feet to protect his shoes from anything. He does recipes now for Munchies on youtube. Lol. To keep it beer related alchemist rocks a Lagunitas IPA hoodie. Cool to see. They were at lagunitas i believe in an episode. I just remember a farm and Body had a moment with a cow. Dont remember if it was Lagunitas or not. It was more in depth on the beer than when they were at Warpigs in Denmark.

I had a few of their beers and they came across as very middle of the road average. I was not blown away but it was better than the cheap stuff. I can see why they got picked up, it is a simple beer the masses would consume and can come off as craft etc.
I watched the show a few times and the lady just comes off as a jerk. Honestly I feel as if she has zero clue. If the show had a great host it would be a hit, I think Sam from Dogfish actually would be ideal for this show, call me crazy but the roll fits him perfectly.
    Cheers

Although I like Sam, someone like Jay Goodwin from The Rare Barrel would be great in this capacity. I'd even go with the guys from Brewdog before Sam.

I would take anyone lol she kills it for me. I tossed him out just because he seems relaxed in front of camera and that goes a long way for a show.
Or rotate hosts, do show with many host and rotate to new one, maybe from all the top end places in country, now that would be fun.

That would be a really neat idea. There are enough great personalities in brewing/homebrewing to make this happen.

See the writers of the show just need to consult actually beer drinking people. We could have a hit show.

As opposed to "Wow, a young blonde chick that owns a brewery. Let's have her host a TV show even though she's super awkward in front of the camera and kind of a bitch."

She definitely does not have camera/acting skills. Did she actually create any of her beers? Or did she just have cash and buy into things? I thought it was just a business move but she had no prior skills with brewing etc. Because that comes across in the show.

She has zero professional brewing experience. Maybe she homebrewed a little, but evidently not very much. Everything before opening Golden Road saw her in a sales position.

That is what I read also and sort of rubbed me because she is on her show giving people views and it does not really carry any weight. She just had a the cash and got super lucky, that does not make her a skilled brewery owner that just makes her a lucky person. It comes off in there show, you can see she is clueless and just knows what she knows from watching others. It also explains why her beer is nothing more than average honestly. There is nothing that makes me say wow that is amazing. Her beer is a pretty package with a simple product inside.
