    I thought I better check to see if I had enough NBS beers before I resolved not to buy any beer in January. 18 waiting to be reviewed without getting into the cellar. Add in 5 or 6 gallons of bottled homebrew and a couple cases of random stuff, I think I can make it to February 1. Cheers!

    After I sent it I thought to myself, "That's not open at 10 am."
    But I didn't go back to delete it.

    Attractive red gold color with white cap.

    Scent is more roasty than smoky but that element is in there. I believe I can identify some caramel like malt as well. Hops are well hidden.

    Taste on entry is a bit smoky but not alot, not much really, Brewer says it's Beachwood smoke but at this level I don't think the source matters as it's a derivative flavor. What I mostly taste is toasted caramel malt.

    Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

    Sam Adams has a knack for producing high quality beers for a wide audience so when they add something like smoke it's just enough to say added something without detracting from the beer's overall appeal. That's not to say it's a timid approach, rather a conservative one. I can see this as a good food paring but it's too cold to venture out to the local barbecue joint and I'm not stirring from my comfy spot.
