The problem here is that perception = reality when you're drinking a beer. I get what you're saying, but if I'm used to super balanced hop bombs, even the presence of malt is going to feel "too malty" (unless that's my preference). Not disagreeing with you, just saying that all these crazily-hopped beers have ruined any semblance of balance in my mind.

 

I get what you are saying, but I think this post was out of line. We can't say something is too malty (especially when you say there should be little to no malt detected for it) because it doesn't exceed a certain malt quantity threshold like an English IPA? Are we not allowed to say an English IPA is too hoppy because it doesn't have as much hops as a West Coast IPA? Or we can't say that a night with a full moon is bright because compared to the mid-day sun it is too dark?

Guilty as charged haha I get that these beers aren't "malty" but when talking IPAs now a days, especially in a TG thread, I would say they are. I do remember a time where I thought Anti and Two Hearted were the hoppiest beers I knew of then started trying others that threw off my perception of balance forever ...3F, HA, PW, etc.
