Happy NBS to you all, and while on the subject of anniversaries, happy birthday to me!

While most of the celebration occurred last weekend with family, they're not really that into beer, so, apart from a growler of Hubert my brother picked up, wine was the primary form of alcohol that was consumed. To make up for that, I've hit a few new beers this past week.

A very juicy and hazy pale ale from @bl00. Very drinkable stuff.

Delicious Saison that was surprisingly bitter and herbal.

Today I've quite a few options on deck. My only problem is I have to leave for work tomorrow at 5AM, so I'm hoping to avoid a hangover. I'll be back!

Glad it's Sunday! Well, sorta. Monday's aren't always the best. I'll cherish the day at hand. After a morning trying to photograph bald eagles and realizing how easy it would be for me to max out my credit card on a new zoom lens, it's time to sit down with some new-to-me brews for NBS. That and get some laundry done. Ah, focus. First up....

    Brooklyn's Naranjito.

Pours a translucent yellow with a finger of white head. Head retention is okay with no lacing left behind. Aroma is very light, but hits notes of orange with resin and dank hops, and pale malts. Orange is more on the back burner, while the dank hops sit along the front. Flavor profile is a mixture of dank, resin, and floral hops, and pale, and biscuit malts. Orange citrus notes are present, but very, very light. There is a yeasty long-lasting finish to this beer. Mouth feel is medium-thin, with a fizzy, crisp feeling. Overall, a light bodied, lightly citrus pale ale. It's refreshing and crisp, which makes it a delight for gulping in large quantities in the heat.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 9/8/17 (wow) to a pilz glass. I did not read the date correctly in the store. Hope I'm not too late.
Pours translucent orange, not clear, not hazy. Nice head, fades to nice lacing.
Smells of apricots before their skin is cut. Background mustiness.
Slight citrus in the front, quickly turns to medium hop bitterness.
Carbonation is about right, a little too much mouth coating for a Marzen, but then it is intentionally off style.

This Thin Man- Mikkeller collaboration, Filthy Flow IPA, is a tasty feed...a dense, pale yellow fog in the glass with very fine effervescence, yes, filthy. The aroma is very bright, with unique tropical notes, pineapple and lemon. Flavors are dense with grapefruit and mango. The hop bitterness is moderate. This is a pleasing and especially flavorful IPA of the juice-bomb variety.

Summary: Aromas of sweet to sour citrus, funky, grass, and a subtle whiff of pineapple blend over top of some sweet to sour woody notes. Ever so slight citrusy peel in the background. The flavor leaned towards the sour side initially and then developed the finer side of the mixture with the woodiness, an ample tartness, and funk. The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a sour, dry and tart finish. I liked this for me and would be more inclined to come back to preferably in the Summer.

Alfie Solomons is fucking with you, you can rely on that.

Did a little side by side with Boy King of Coastal Brewing and Hopslam.
At a month old, the Boy King had a much more assertive hop presence than the Hopslam. The Hopslam has a wonderful head and lacing. Wish I had both of them all year. At least I know when the Hopslam is going to show up every year

It's warm enough to get a little work done in the garage, and in light of a recent thread I believe I've stumbled upon the perfect 'garage beer'.

Here's a Czech Pilsner that I bought on a whim and know absolutely nothing about (the $1.99 price tag made it kind of an easy decision, though ):
    Craft Boom of Pardubice Pilsner

It's everything you'd want from the style, from the initial hit of grassy/spicy hops to the full malt backbone which manages to be deep in flavor yet not overly rounded. It's as dry and crisp as can be, with a big yet in check hop bitterness on the finish. Water profile seems to be soft, and it's squeaky clean except for a touch of DMS on the finish to keep things interesting. As I get deeper into the glass the hop flavor starts to come on stronger than at first, but the deep malt sticks around just enough to balance them out. Fantastic! Solid A (4.5), and will be getting loads more. I may even keep them in the garage :sunglasses:.

G'afternoon NBS. Fairly warm, but rainy day here. The weather seems to be playing with the chance of snow or rain during this week. Either way, we need the rain and the warm weather has me thinking of camping this spring.

Today's first up is 3 Brothers Smooth Sailor, a bourbon barrel aged porter. Clocks in at only 6.7% ABV.

Pours a thick, dark brown color with a light tan head. Head is very thick, takes a little while to fade away. Smells of vanilla, oak, cocoa, and malts. Tastes of vanilla, roasted malts, cocoa, oak, and a hint of bourbon. Medium body, flavor lingers for a while after the finish. A little lighter body than I expected, which does make it an easy drinker. Price point is nice, and the ABV makes this an easy drinking porter.

For a day like today, this is just about right, all the flavor of a decent barrel aged porter but not a 10% or higher ABV hit.

Happy Sunday NBS players. A wet and grey day here on the island but unseasonably warm. A bit odd with no football on for the first Sunday in a while. Just been cleaning around the house and watching tv.

My first new beer today is OH...Dream, an oat cream ipa, from Other Half. The brewery did a mobile can release in Eastern li. Was still west for me but a lot better than Brooklyn. The brew checks in at 6.2% abv and has a 1/23/18 canning date.

A hazzy pour that yields a straw blonde/vanilla color with a frothy white head. On the nose I get mostly citrus fruit. The drinking starts with a big creamy rush of the hops. A verry smooth flow that finishes virtually bitter less. Soft and plush fruit notes with melon, grape, lime. The mouth feel is the most interesting part about the beer. It’s moderate but offers a super creamy feel with a sort of lactose flavor that works pretty well.

Overall just really great stuff. I feel like I could drink buckets of this. 4.3 range here players,

Yesterday was my wife's birthday, speaking of anniversaries.
We don't get any of The Bruery in Maine, so I buy some whenever I'm visiting other states. This particular one is Autumn Maple (yes, I know it is a fall beer). It is the 2016 Edition and is 10% ABV.
I opened this in the sink, because I've been gushed at before by some Bruery beers. This one was like a volcanic eruption.
When things settled down, the beer turned out to be a golden brown color. There was a medium-sized tan head with good retention.
It had a sweet potato and maple syrup aroma. There was a hint of spice.
Spice was much more prominent in the taste. Cinnamon and nutmeg. Sweet potato and maple syrup.
    Medium-bodied, easy to drink.

It's another sunny and unseasonably warm day along the southern shore. A perfect morning with no wind that included a long run and two happy dogs that went for a walk afterwards. Did some garage organizing and now it's time for a new beer that I picked up on a trip to Chicago yesterday.

I've heard and read a lot about Corridor Brewing and their knack for producing top notch NE style IPA's, so I figured it was finally time to check them out. Squeezit OG was released a few days ago and while the four packs were long gone, they were still selling crowlers for $13. I purchased a container of this 8% liquid for the occasion today.

It pours a hazy but brilliant orange producing a finger of creamy white foam. Heavy lacing is left behind upon settling. The smell is passionfruit, pineapple, orange, papaya, mango and a slight whiff of fresh rubber. Taste is fresh squeezed OJ, pineapple, papaya and mango. A touch of floral is in the finish. The feel is pillowy soft and creamy smooth for a beer coming in at 8%.

I don't know why it took me so long to pay this place a visit, but I'm glad I finally did. The Bendy Meme and Van Hazen I had there yesterday were outstanding and this beer is as well. My score is 4.62 / rDev+4.8%. Yes, I'm now officially a Corridor fan boy!

Enjoy your Sunday of new beer while I finish my juicy crowler. Here's more reading material......
