    Anyone have the opposite experience?

3 years ago I was a little disappointed with Julius after hearing so much hype, did a couple of blind tastings of Julius vs Fort Point and found Fort Point the easy winner.

Then, last 2 batches of Julius (in the past 2 months) I had were phenomenal. I haven't done a blind comparison but I was not at all underwhelmed...which is interesting as it would be opposite of my personal bias.

I suppose if we all just drank Budweiser we could erase the whole batch fluctuation conversation...

The people who are disappointed have bad taste memory and palate shift and the people who think it's better have a similar bad taste memory and the sunk cost fallacy clouding thier brains .

This is a cyclical argument with no satisfactory answer for either side. I've had a couple great beers but outweighed by more that I felt weren't up to par.

I've moved on for now. No reason to justify what you taste. If it's not as good there's plenty more beers. If it's is as good keep buying it.

Agreed. The argument is pointless because nothing can be proven.

I've had three batches from Charlton that I thought were absolutely stellar, the most recent being last week's In Perpetuity. I have a lingering suspicion that the stuff that sits in the smaller FVs tastes a little punchier and more like what I remember Monson to be, but I could be entirely wrong. It's reasonable to expect some change going to fermenters up to 10 times the size as what was used at Monson.

Nevertheless, I'm still buying the stuff because it's still good (I was called a hypocrite in another thread for saying the quality had declined to my tastes, but that I was still buying it), but it's nice to have a ton of other local/regional options.

Some people just like to rationalize other people's opinions for them. The internet is fun.

So, different water, different grains and hops, agricultural products do have variations. Different brewing systems. Yup must taste exactly the same.

Nothing in particular. Just shifted the money I used to spend at TH to buy more Kettlehead, Trillium, and Proclamation when I go. The highest volume of my beer consumption is shelf pilsners anyhow. I'll revisit when things settle out a bit.

Going to chime in here. I just went last friday to charlton for the first time. In perpetuity was pretty good. Julius tasted like a malt bomb and Ive never had treehouse before. I may go back in the summer but Trillium, Upper Pass, Alchemist, Frost get my money. I went to Lamplighter saturday night after dinner and was very disappointed.
TreeHouse is a very divisive subject. I came away extremely disappointed. But hey standing in line next to me was some guy who came up from pennsylvania. So they are doing something right.

Treehouse makes my pee smell like Golden Grahams.

But that's ok, because when I take my kid there he is not worried about his frost bitten fingers dropping off, rather he is well chuffed at the sweet smelling air surrounding him as he is loaded onto the back of an ambulance.

    EMT mules baby!!!!!

This conversation could’ve been copy-and-pasted from any of the last 50 pages of the old Toppling Goliath Appreciation Thread after they scaled up...Just find & replace “Green” and “Julius” with “Pseudo Sue”

After reading this thread I don't even think I like liquids anymore. I think I'm going to stop having them.

I welcome the sweet release of death.

The Julius I received from the newer brewery was quite a bit better than the past few batches I had received or picked up from the original location.

Have to remember, these types of beers are so dependent on the hop quality/crop that year to year the beer will taste a little different. While these breweries do have more say in hop crops they receive and stuff, they still differ. Citra last year could be more intense with tropical fruit vs. this year where it may pick up a bit more pine or dankness, for example. I am sure TH has refined the system in by now, it’s just working with raw ingredients that is the limiting factor.

People like to blame anything and everything, but just look at what the product is… Extremely dependent on the agriculture (barley, wheat, hops) that do vary from farm to farm, year to year. You can do all you can to be consistent, but if this year’s Mosaic doesn’t have that bright blueberry note, then your fans will complain on BA about how the new brewery you built is at fault...!

My thought is, if you’re not happy with the beer you buy… Then just don’t buy it? To keep buying to just complain is just silly and you really just look like an idiot.
