This thread is like spinning around in an office chair. Where will we stop? The cans are bad? The bottles are good? The bottles don't get here fast enough? TG's new facility makes bad PseudoSue? They make great PseudoSue!?

To me it's pretty clear: bottles have been fire and have gotten here super quickly.

Been here long enough to know their original foray into the Chicago scene sucked, but things have been getting better & better lately.

I'm no TG fan-boy, but credit where it's due.

What's the verdict on this new King Sue batch?

Anyone see a date on theirs? Grabbed 2 in STC and I couldn’t find one under the store lights at least

I passed on the KS at STC tonight for that reason. I’ve been burned waaaay too many times by TG beers without dates. I really wish they’d get their shit together with bottle/can dating. Too many other great options to gamble.

The first one I grabbed from Grand Binny’s had no date, but then I grabbed a couple more with 2/19 dates. Not sure what’s up with the undated bottles.

Thanks man. I saw the brand new Pompeii and Pseudo 4 packs at Beer Cellar had dates about 4-5 weeks old. I hope we aren’t slipping here....

I'm as back and forth with TG as anyone else, but King Sue is pretty good. Good hop burn, smells great. A bit thin, but still with the $$$ imo. Also, no date on my bottle.

The mosaic dry hop golden nugget is really, really good. If you’re a fan of mosaic you need to pick this up. Great taste, color and aroma. By the grace of Clark this one is dated. 2/27. And a couple cases sitting on the floor at Binny’s STC.

Considering I’ve seen worries about Old Nation M-43 hitting stores 2 weeks old, it’s not surprising. And the fact that TG had stuff to us within a week of canning/bottling, I get it.

Drinking these 4-5 weeks old is no big deal (and perhaps even best), but for some folks that aren’t drinking it right away, those dates are a turnoff.

Yeah for Decorah cans entering the Chicago market? Older than the first run through. Once you get to 1 month and older drops, you run into the issues Surly and Ballast Point struggled with

But how do you know when that beer was delivered? Could it just be they ordered a large amount of it the first time around to make sure it had an initial shelf presence instead of immediately selling out like Pseudo Sue?

I think this gets to the “breaking point” of craft beer nerds purchases versus casual craft drinkers. For many of us, we only want TG, etc. if they are less than a month. For many of our casual craft friends, they don’t care, but they’ll go for something more well known or local like Revolution, Lagunitas, or Half Acre.

You are right about that. When a beer sits for months warm, we at least know why we didn’t like the beer. A casual consumer walks into my Binny’s and has Lizard King from December or undated Pseudo boxes stacked high (both real examples) and just assumes the beer isn’t very good and doesn’t come back to it to even try it fresh

Exact same thing happened to me when I was starting out. Anecdotally, I know number of people who had that experience with Florida Sue last year.

This was a genuine worry of mine when TG first got here. I was afraid no one would buy their (mediocre) first few canned batches, and they'd decide to leave Chicago again, or cut back shipments.
