What beer are you drinking now? #1973

At terminal 2 San Diego airport at the Stone bar. Having a Ripper

 

Ah, lunch came early, pun intended . . .



Clear light gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma is mostly citrus hops with some fruit like aspects.

Taste on entry is hop forward and again, citrusy. The fruit like elements build from mid palate but the overriding impression is citrus, more a lemon-lime than grapefruit, with fruit as a backing. I don't taste malt so much as sense it. Not strong flavors but rich and they last into the aftertaste. Relatively simple flavors that comes across as complex because they are so well integrated.

Medium-full texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall it makes a solid impression. If this represents recent thinking about IPAs then I'm in favor of the trend. Oh, there's plenty of hop bitterness but in a restrained way that avoids harshness or sharpness. There is there, there, without any part raising it's voice louder than the other parts. Smooth mouthfeel is achieved by malt and technique rather than relying on additions used just for that purpose. That and it tastes pretty darn good.

 

Good morning, fellow Bracketeers! Well, like everyone else in the known universe, I'm 14-2 after Day 1. The 'Canes and the 'Cats shouldn't hurt me too much if all else goes according to plan, since I had them both taking a powder in Round 2. But, hey, I didn't call it "Tom's No-Chance Bracket" for nothing. Now time for a juice break: Sam Adams NEIPA. I don't know much about the style, but this stuff surely tastes legit to me. It's also pretty.
