Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

Galaxy Bowl improved drastically and i'm pleased to hear Ghost Tropic did as well.

I have had one good can and two near drain pours.

Nice event yesterday. Being able to order a flight to sample each was great but also a little overwhelming to the palatte. Just wish the flights were a tad cheaper, $25 for 7 5oz pours was a little steep! But, heh, I saw a bunch flights being served so there were many degens like myself. Very tasty burger as well!

Neon Party and Hubbard's Cave were the two best out of the bunch for myself. Neon Party would be perfect if it had more carbonation. The flavor was on point but just a tad flat.

 

This is a "secret" everyone knows but nobody wants to admit. A 2-3 week old IPA is almost if not always better than a 2-3 day old one.

 

Great event. Favorite was Neon Party followed very closely by Galaxy Bowl. Biggest surprise was Cumulus, which really stood out as unique among the rest.

 

Mellotron is hitting the suburbs

 

Was at Dryhop yesterday as well for the hazy tap takeover. Great event and pretty fun talking with some of the Brewers about their beers. Kind of cherry-picked my way through them because I had had some of the beers previously.

It's also fun to finally meet another BeerAdvocate member, so thanks @KrajDoesBeer for introducing me to @NNN .

I think people will like mellotron. They might not go crazy for the hop combo, but the execution is pretty flawless. I like it better than galaxy bowl. Great texture. Extremely drinkable

Also not as dank as some other recent batches. A touch more juicy

 

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but 3 Floyd’s has a NEIPA called cheer team that’s pretty damn good.

 

I’d actually be curious to see how it compares to crushed velvet. Similar hop combo.

 

I really enjoyed the first batch, so I'll look out for this one. Was by far one of my favorites of theirs.

Thanks dude. That's good to know. I plan on going down there today for some food and I was specifically eyeing that one to try.

 

Yeah. It’s pretty good. Much better than million dollar man, which is listed as a “hazy ipa”’on the chalkboard.

I’d make sure to specify a half pint. Otherwise you’ll get a full imperial pint

 

I won't have to worry about that, as the Cheerteam just blew as I sat down.

Any thoughts on crushed velvet? I plan on picking some up after the game.

 

Very good, but a slight step down from the last version. This will sound pretty pretentious but Its almost too smooth.

Still definitely worth getting though.
