I enjoyed my visit to Wooden Hill. Just by the crowd you can tell this area was starving for a taproom. I liked the beer but nothing that is going to blow up a skirt of todays beer geek. Loved the house nachos.

Spiral Brewery in Hastings announced it's holding its grand opening April 20-22.

In St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, Trap Rock Brewing Company is aiming for a May 25 opening. St. Croix Falls is about an hour northeast of the Twin Cities and just across the river from Taylors Falls, Minnesota, which has two BIPs of its own (Fell Run and The Lincoln Brewery).

Yoerg's opening has been delayed to August 15 or later

At first we were more than crushed, but this now does give us time to rework our distribution system in the Twin Cities for our packaged beers. We have had a nightmarish 18 months with an absolutely horrible group of wholesalers (try finding a 6pk of Yoerg's Beer on any store's shelves). We now have a new wholesale company that has been built around Yoerg's beer distribution and we should be back on your favorite retailer's shelves within a couple weeks. Our Bock is bottled, in the warehouse and waiting to be unveiled as well. We will be doing tastings all over the cities this summer, so make sure you stop in and introduce yourself as we spread the word. Thank's again for everyone's support.

I hope the people at Yoerg's were just tired or didn't check their response to a question about their own product. When asked about the benefit of a "lager drinking like an ale", they responded that

"Yoerg's Beer is a 'Steam' beer. Which means it's literally boiled at the beginning of fermentation which brings out a rich, toasty, intensely malty character."

Probably should be a little more knowledgeable about your own product. Not only is that so impossibly wrong, it's not even remotely close to what a Steam, or California Common, beer is.

You just can't do that in today's environment. Credibility is a very finicky currency

...and wow, I just read more on their Facebook page that they promote that their beer "improves in the bottle over a very long time".

    This is beer, right?

Since No one has said anything I’m guessing no, but has anyone heard anything about Northgate Brewing since Tod Fyten shut it down? I didn’t see any indication that it was again for sale or anything. Presumably, they’re still paying on the lease so I’d think something has to happen.

    Any rumors?

Here's an article on the upcoming 3rd Act Craft Brewery in Woodbury, which the owners "plan to open... by the end of the year" (which of course translates to well into 2019). It will fill perhaps the biggest remaining brewery hole in the Twin Cities metro area, as there are no breweries in the state that are east of St. Paul between Stillwater to the north and (soon) Hastings to the south.

@Seamus_McGuire Re: NorthGate: I have nothing new beyond what I've already relayed on this thread (that NorthGate had discussions with a potential buyer who emerged after the Fyten sale fell through).

Opinion Brewing has: “Passed everything with City inspector.” I would imagine they’ll be reopening as a bar, and won’t change the name.

The people from Brass Foundry Brewing came into my store a few days ago pre-selling their IPA, and gave me a sample poured from a growler. It was quite good. Fruity and piney with a really strong bitterness. They'll start canning, and distributing it in the first weeks of May.

That was fast. Are they starting out as a client brewer, or are they already all licensed, set up, inspected, and ready to brew in Minnetonka? I know they're projecting a summer opening for the taproom.

Elsewhere in the southwest metro, rumor has it that there's finally a brewery-in-planning in Bloomington in the vicinity of Normandale Blvd., possibly at the closed Famous Dave's space at 98th St. That's all I've got; I have no idea how legitimate or firm the plan is. Have at it, gumshoes!

They're in the old Excelsior space. My guess is that if they have the ability to open a taproom they simply bought or rented the space with the equipment already installed. I didn't ask though. I did inquire about the wizard house location originally planned in downtown Minneapolis, and the guy said their architect told them the weight of putting brewing equipment on the first floor of any of the buildings would cause a collapse of the structure.

It appears that existing brewery in Ontario is in fact related to the Minnesota BIP. In a unique business model, it's planning locations in both Minnesota and Manitoba near its famous namesake lake.
