That is still “hazy” beer... I have a nice photo of 5 day old King Sue from around Christmas time 2 years ago that is quite “hazy”.

I’ll give you that they might now use a different yeast. I would bet they used to use something similar to 1056/001. The haze would drop out of solution after a while. That happens with Chico yeast regardless of when you dry hop it.

I was more referring to the fact that they’ve been making soft, more fruit forward, well balanced Hoppy beers longer than most on the East Coast. I find when their beers are good they are much better executed than any Trillium beers nowadays. They are one of the closest I’ve had to Treehouse in terms of overall execution. Softness, light on the palate, clarity of flavor, aromatic etc. I find 3Floyds hoppy beers to be much more “malty” to me.

It’s so easy to impress people by just overloading the hops resulting in a beer that explodes with aromatics and flavor but it’s much harder to do so with balance, softness, drinkability. Not many have managed to achieve that IMHO. You will find “hoppier” beers out there for sure but not many that are as well executed.

I have had more flops from TG however than other highly regarded breweries. Not oxidized flops ( just got a bunch of Trillium that was like mid 90s shelf turd caramel bomb IPA oxidized BTW ) but horrible hop derived flavor flops.

There’s hazy and there’s turbid/soupy.....the TH transition has spanned the two. I liked original PSue and really like the new version. I’m sure TH purists are agast....but I can’t bring myself to go to that thread and see what they are saying — like the Treehouse thread —you’d need a primer in all the references and historical twists and turns — so many comments just speaking in tongues. Curious what Trill u got that was like 90s caramel bomb — they don’t even use crystal malt save a little dextrin in any of their brews. Would have had to be months old — do you remember what brews they were?

Most Trillium beers have Crystal... C15 is in every street beer as well as Fort Point.

The beers I was sent from a friend who grabbed them same day maybe three weeks ago were all oxidized. Fort Pint and Stillings street especially. Granted they were shipped across the US so that has something to do with it but still they should hold up better than that. One of the off flavors created by oxidation is caramel like sweetness, as well as the usual cardboard/paper.

Did you try King Sue? I'd put that beer right there with TH and Trillium. It's pretty fantastic and a typical NE style turbid juice bomb.

I actually just finished a bottle of King Sue that I managed to find today. Absolutely up there with the best of Trillium (I'd put Mosaic Cutting Tiles over it, but well, that's one of my favorite beers ever.)

Is it too expensive? Absolutely. Will I drink the hell out of it when it's in the far more reasonable 4 x 16oz packaging? Absolutely.

No. Haven't happened upon it yet. I'll grab a four when I do. From what I've had I don't get the correlation.

King Sue was the closest to a Trillium IPA that I have had outside of Trillium

Getting high off your own supply?

I'm joking, but look forward to trying KS .

That’s not a surprise. That has happened to me on my way home from Fort Point — especially when I spent too much time at R34....some kind of flash oxidation phenomenon associated w the bio-transformation process...

Row 34 will keep your beers in their fridge while you eat/drink and hand you a ticket for it. Sort of like a coat check for your beers.

That’s cool, but weird at the same time. I tired to get Hotel Burlington to do this for me with my two cases of heady, but they said they couldn’t because of heath regulations. Weird that Row34 can, and in Boston no less.

Makes sense from a business stand point. And I assume they have a great working relationship with Trillium seeing as they're 20 feet away.

More often than not I stop into Row 34 for a drink or two if I'm buying Trillium beers. Ironically I didn't this past Saturday because there wasn't really anything in particular I wanted to try. I had also just come from NERAX and Worden Hall...so I didn't really NEED more drinks anyways.

I always thought it was kinda weird too - can’t say I’ve ever seen it anywhere else - but given the large number of folks coming over from Trill w/cases and boxes of beer it makes sense..and the proximity of the cooler right behind the receptionist makes it easy.

I've had plenty of Trillium/Treehouse beers and I find Toppling Goliath to be very comparable based on the 5 beers I've tried. I would put King Sue up against the best of these breweries' offerings. Pseudo Sue and Golden Nugget are also fantastic.

The only downside is price point on the bombers. I refrained from purchasing a bomber of mosaic Nugget due to the $14.96 price.

Totally agree. King Sue was pretty fantastic. I only saw it in one of the drops, maybe the first or second, but haven't seen it since. Is it around again?

    and GO Cs!
