Long busy day had to go retrieve my bag at the airport ( all beers made it intact! ). The Powell family also went to Brewgrass Festival. There was 6 in-state brewers & a cidery there. Beautiful Spring day, good food & music, the beer was awright at best.

Earlier a Columbus Brewing's Bodhi DIPA & now a Mother's MILF BA Imp Stout

 

Hmm... in the totality of CA? Barebottle is probably completely unknown.

In San Francisco, though, it may be considered the 2nd best one (behind Cellarmaker). As a San Franciscan, some I've talked to generally feel they were really making mediocre/meh beer when they started roughly a couple years ago, but have since improved a lot and are making some really good beer.

I sort of concur with that, as I've had some of their stuff recently and been pleasantly surprised, whether it be their hazy IPAs or kettle sours. But I just picked up a couple of their bottles they've started to put out, and can't say I like them...

Good Evening/Morning, BA's!

I haven't been spending much time here on the forum lately as I've been on a bit of a kick to get myself back into shape and cut out a majority of my beer consumption as a result, but I decided that having a great beer once in awhile never hurt anyone

I was organizing my "cellar" this afternoon when I spotted a lone bottle away from the pack... a bottle of Orval with a date stamp of 03/26/15...I guess I let this one slip by a little bit too long?!

Now, Orval is my highest rated beer that I've ever logged on this site. When it's fresh (as possible), it's nothing short of amazing and I really mean that. After letting one bottle stew for the last 3 years (for science ), I can say that the results are conclusive: Orval 3 Year Old is definitely not up to par with it's younger counterpart. All of the light fruitiness, tartness that I really enjoyed about this beer is gone, leaving behind a very one dimensional caramel and earthy bitterness.

Moral of the story? Drink it fresh
