Hello all, I've got the vague feeling that I've made this thread before, but didn't find it on a search and don't remember the responses... Either way, considering it's becoming stout season, this might be a useful thread.

I was wondering what milk stouts are coming out that you folks would recommend trying. Points if it's available in 4- or 6-packs. I would also love suggestions on oatmeal stouts.

    Thanks

Left Hand Milk Stout seems like the most common one around here. Wachusett has a Milk Stout, and Sam Adams Cream Stout usually comes out around the winter. Beyond that I'm struggling to think of any obvious ones.

As for Oatmeal Stouts, there's quite a bit on shelves. Ipswich Oatmeal Stout is one of the best in the world and dirt cheap in 6-packs. (Also a personal fave)

Only other one I can think of besides a few cbeer named in our store is the Hitachino Lacto, or if you count Young's Chocolate Stout (on BA it's under milk/sweet stout), there's that too.

Second the Ipswich Oatmeal suggestion. As for other Oatmeal stouts in bombers, there's also Samuel Smith, Rogue's Shakespeare, Anderson Valley Barney Flats, and a few other winter seasonals.

Butternuts Moo Thunder Stout, and ST 2x Stout are two others that are readily available that haven't been mentioned. They are decent middle of the road options. Also X3 on Ipswich Oatmeal. It's is top notch.

We also get the Dark Horse stout series with some regularity, one and two are Oatmeal and Milk respectively. I have enjoyed both of them.

Wachussett makes a Milk Stout that isn't bad.

    x4 on the Ipswich Stout

Cape Ann Brewing Company (Gloucester) has a great Milk Stout - Joey Rock's Milk Stout. Although it's available on draft at the brewpub only. Growlers can be acquired if you find yourself that far north of Boston.

Southern Tier Creme Brulee on tap at The Flying Dog in Raynham. An amazing dessert brew if there ever was, but be ready for the super sweet, and the 9+ abv.

I didn't realize that Moo Thunder was a milk stout. Says farmhouse ale on the bottle, so I never picked it up. WIll give it a shot, thanks.

I'm certainly a fan of Ipswich's oatmeal stout and most of Dark Horse's offerings as well. Haven't tried the Wachusett or Anderson Valley suggestions yet, though.

Left Hand makes the best milk stout in the country and those nitro bottles are just plain cool.

It goes against my nature to agree with what a Yankee fan has to say and I don't want to sound biased and all...but I gotta agree, Nitro bottles rock!

Southern Tier 2xStout is pretty good for the style, and not a sugar bomb like Brulee.

5x on Ipswich Oatmeal Stout for a sub $10 six pack its a beast of flavor.

Wachusett Milk Stout is slightly better than Left Hands in my opinion. I'm not crazy about the style though.

Some of Rogues Stouts are quite sweet and available so you might be interested in those.

6x on the Ipy Oatmeal Stout. Best 6-pack $7.49 can buy. I know it's not a stout, but have you tried Founders Porter? Drinks pretty stouty, and just an awesome beer.

Has anyone seen Velvet Merlin (the non-barrel version) around Boston this year or in in years past? I've been please with a bunch of FW's stuff, so I would love to give that a try.
