For as much as people in this thread shit on MoRE's release strategy when it was announced, could maybe they have simply done it right? Eliminating looping, setting limits appropriately, making enough beer for the crowd...

I mean, you'll never be able to prevent the resales or a truly dedicated mule operation, but for the most part it seems like this was handled better than expected.

Online sales eliminate looping, limits can be set appropriately and it also eliminates mules. So there's that.

"Chasing" any beer is not worth it to a lot of people. I've been into craft beer for almost a decade now and the "chase and wait" phenomenon is something that's only gotten truly out of hand in the last few years.

For people who have enjoyed craft for a long time it really can be annoying to have to deal with all of the craziness that is the scene now. I'm not saying this to bash people who have gotten into it more recently or anything like that, rather trying to share a perspective of someone who has done this a long time. Empathy >>> telling someone to get lost.

I just slogged through the six or so pages that materialized over the last few days of not checking this thread, and it was totally worth it.

I am surprised how smoothly this went, though lottery and especially tickets are better, in my opinion.

This was worth it for the drama, and I look forward to the next two days and twenty pages of content. This is a Hall of Fame thread, and @ColonelHopslam and @Quilentro are the co-MVPs.

And I think on-line sales are stupid when a line is run this well. To each their own.

Reward the people who are dedicated enough to show up. Let them have a fun morning bottle sharing respectfully with their friends. On-line sales and, especially lotteries, are almost 100% luck based. I'd rather have some control over whether or not I obtain beer I want.

This whole "they want it more" attitude is pretty misguided in my opinion. I could cite that I've been into craft beer for years longer than most people who lined up today, so by that logic, should I get the beer because I'm a bigger fan? There are tons of different ways you can justify saying X person deserves the beer instead of Y person, a person's ability to wait in line on a Friday morning is just one of those reasons.

The simple fact is there is more demand than supply, the easiest, and most fair, way to run it is via lottery.

Started on the trail probably 75 yards east of Ardmore. Line never made it to Ardmore I’d just drive by and take a look down the trail. There were 3 guys from More waiting for people at the end of the line with wristbands. They posted online immediately when the last wristband was gone so you’ll know whether you’re good or not. Seemed like it took an hour for them to get rid of the last 50 or so. I got there about 7:45 and left with my bottle at 10:15. Not too bad. Enjoyed some beers in line. It was very well run imo.

Seems like not. I'm seeing secondary values anywhere between $250 and $350 right now.

Although I suspect it will come down as we get further removed from the release. FFS they apparently have 1,000+ bottles each day and likely anyone who lines up at or relatively close to the "official" line start time is going to get a bottle.

I wouldn't say that's a fair or accurate comparison. A painting/art is an item that you look at & enjoy for years. A beer is consumed & then urinated out.

I think they will probably level out between $400-500 per bottle

It’s basicaly an event ticket like a concert or sporting event.

It’s consumed, and there are a finite amount of people that can “experience”’ it - whether it be music, a competition, or ingesting food/drink. You’re paying for the opportunity to partake in the experience.

I personally think it’s stupid, as the I don’t believe there to be a large difference between a More Stout and bottle of Miller High Life in terms of the experience, but many people do.

I was #981. Line started moving at 9 and I had my bottle at 10:15. So if my math is right they were moving people through the line at less than 5 seconds per person?

I'm very skeptical of that. Unless we're talking years in the future, where the number of bottles in the market has shrunk because of people consuming their bottles, values tend to start high immediately after a release and then come down a bit over time.
