Thanks for the tip but no luck with Chrome or IE--just a white bar across the screen. The rest of the site works fine. Weird.

Oh well, whatever, I'm going for the first time on Saturday so I'll find out then.

    In my opinion, they don't.

That being said, they were all excellent BA stouts, don't get it twisted. The barrel character working with the adjuncts in Chaos 17 is what set it apart, and Vanilla Caviar was the only one where I picked up a distinct barrel presence. BA Swirl is a huge chocolate bomb, with light vanilla, and it was really hard to pick out the barrel presence, but it is there. BA Double Rainbow almost seemed like the barrel was non-existent, it really just tasted like a more balanced version of Henna b1. I was trying to pick out the barrel as it warmed, but I think it's just covered by the adjuncts. I enjoyed all of them for sure, but I wouldn't say they compare to Chaos at all.

Everything above are subjective opinions, mind you. Either way, I'm expecting to be called an idiot for them. :sunglasses:

Works for me on Chrome. It did take a second or two to load. I'll assume that you answered that you were at least 21. www.morebrewing.com/on-tap/

Question - how do they add the non-vanilla flavors, like the strawberry in rainbow?

Are they actually using some strawberry somehow, or is this just some flavor additive?

You should email them. I’m sure they’ll give you the recipe.

I don't understand the unnecessary sarcasm. Isn't this a legitimate question if they are using real strawberry/chocolate or whether it is synthetic?

Is it really that shocking of a question that someone might know in a thread dedicated to this brewery specifically?

Is it really that shocking that you’d get a snarky remark though either? I appreciated both your question and the sarcasm of the response.

It is interesting that they don’t mention it at all in terms of using some form of fresh strawberries or puréed strawberries.

My guess...they took some Neapolitan astronaut ice cream and let it soak in Henna for awhile. :astonished:

I hope not, the only thing I wouldn't trade for a More adjunct stout is that Astronaut Ice Cream.

The only thing I’ll speak to is, notice how the description when More first announced the 3 beers on its april 26 fb post said ba double rainbow was “strawberry, chocolate and vanilla” whereas the description for swirl was “cocoa nibs and mexican vanilla beans”. I had to pick between Saturday and Sunday’s release and that was actually the decider for me. I interpreted that to mean double rainbow does not use natural raw ingredients in the same manner the swirl descriptor indicated to me. I think it paid off, as the swirl on draft had a very natural chocolate and vanilla flavor whereas the 2 double rainbows I’ve tried (albeit the regular non ba version) tasted like neopolitan astronaut ice cream as @croush so eliquently stated.

I picked up on that too, but I actually missed it for the swirl, while I did notice it for the Vanilla Caviar. As a result I expected they used extract or synthetic for the Rainbow. Also...It's hard to include fresh strawberry and make it taste like strawberry. Even fresh strwberries in homemade strawberry ice cream honestly don't have the most strawberry taste to them. So, I had a hard time imagining that they successfully did this when they did not state it explicitly.

    Thanks for the comment.

(Aside(personal response): I'm not a fan at all of synthetic flavors. So, personally this one is a lot less attractive than the other two, much like how (in general) FB beers aren't that attractive due to the "flavors added" comment that essentially guarantees they aren't 100% real ingredients.)

I had a pretty long conversation with the Ram brewer right after Shaun left (Shaun's assistant brewer...forgot his name). He told me they used extract with almost everything that had adjuncts. Said they dialed in the right proportions and just dump gallons into base beers. I was drinking a coffee maple brown which brought up the conversation and he said they even use maple extract because it's easier and does not make the beers overly sweet. This was of course at Ram, so not saying this is what More is doing, just pointing out.

I do know for a fact that Shaun nibbed the heck out of the Side Note stouts at Ram -- I hung out with him in the brew house one day for a bit while he was doing some cleanup....

The blog post from Old Nation about their choice to use extracts for M-43 Strawberry and the methodology to come to that conclusion was pretty endearing and eye opening.

I don't think the act of using extracts is inherently bad. Extracts are not synthetic artificial flavoring. There are a lot of bad extracty beers out there (like Saugatuck Blueberry Maple Stout) but I won't agree they're universally bad.
