Going down there in a few weeks for a bachelor party, and a lot of us are big beer guys so I know breweries/beer bars will happen, and I'm looking for some recommendations for both those and bottle shops as well.

Burley Oak is an obvious one, and I'll be doing that no matter what, but I don't know much about:

    - Ocean City Brewing Company
    - Backshore Brewing Co
    - The Fin City Brewing Company

Or anything else that may not have popped up on Google maps yet.

And, while we're here, anything in Delaware worth hitting on the way there or back? Will be coming from NYC and thus coming down 13/1/113. Won't want to go far our of our way at all in Delaware considering it's a deep drive there and back.

    Any help is appreciated!

While I haven't had many OC beers at the source, I found the tastier beers elsewhere.

So it depends otherwise you may just want to stay put.

Dewey Beer Co in DE is worth checking out if you are willing to head up Route 1 for a bit, and there's great beer spots in Rehoboth DE as well.

Absolutely agreed. @IGaveYouPower You could even hit it on your way down to OCMD although you may encounter more traffic on Route 1 than you would 113 depending upon when you're heading there.

Backshore was decent, and it's right on the boardwalk which is nice. Same I thought with OC Brewing, but haven't had them in a little while. I enjoy going to 45th Street Taphouse. There are some pretty good local craft beer selections, nice outside deck bar and view, too. Liquid Assets is more northern but worth checking out, both bottles and drafts I believe. Anthony's Liquors for bottles, too.

You can always do Seacrets and/or Fager's Island at night for more of a party scene if you guys are into that.

In Delaware, Atlantic Liqours right on Route 1 has a nice bottle selection as well as Outlet Liqours. The Pickled Pig Pub right on the same little stretch is a nice spot for good beer and food, though their draft prices tend to be a little high. Also in Delaware I have heard great things about Revelation Craft Brewing, they're literally maybe 5 minutes off Route 1 heading into Rehoboth Beach.

    Enjoy!

Revelation is small but there are picnic tables outside and a food truck. Beers are good if not mind-blowing. Dogfish Head Brewpub is like two minutes from there. Big place, huge tap list, brewpub exclusives, good food. Definitely worth stopping imo.

Plus, take the ferry from Cape May. Much more relaxing than driving around. With proper timing, you could even hit Cape May brewery before.

I'm not a fan of the Ferry. I am a fan of leave early and drive around.
However, I know I am in the minority when it comes to that.

When it comes to going back home, I’m with you. But going down, no. First, have to stay at my dad’s over night down the GSP. Then in the morning it’s a short drive down to Cape May to the ferry. The kids especially love hanging out on the boat. Then it hits Lewes and we’re like 10 miles away from Rehoboth. Can’t get in the hotel yet but leave the car there and walk to DFH for lunch to officially start the vacation.

Don't waste your time at OC Brewing. Your time will be better spent driving back to Burley Oak for a second visit.

Ocean City brewing is worth a stop if you have a lot of people for the bachelor party. Beer is pretty average but usually a good variety but the space is really big. The 45th street tap house is solid too. Burley Oak is a must like you said.

Done a few bachelor parties and a golf trip the last few years to Ocean City so most of the drinking was bud light and tequila at Seacrets. :grimacing:

I keep hearing more and more good things about Dewey Beer Co...have been 2 or 3 times but they seem to be ramping it up a notch or 3.....Burley Oak is a must. Backshore very much improved as of late. Fin City Black IPA is extremely solid-can't beat the view from the outside deck area at Hooper's aka Sneaky Pete's. Play it safe and sensible-OC cops will arrest you if you even fart wrong trust me.....

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention DFH. It's must stop IMO if you get up to Rehoboth. Let's face it, most of the Breweries mentioned above wouldn't even be there if it wasn't for DFH. Last time I was there Sam and his family were sitting at the table next to me too (but no promises on that happening). I'd even stop in Milton if your route either way takes you close. I've been to a lot of Breweries and none more impressive than DFH in Milton. I'd also recommend Henlopen City Oyster House in Rehoboth too for great food (think Row 34 in Boston) and a solid beer menu.

Plus one on the Henlopen City Oyster House. Love going there and had a Founders KBS on tap last time. But depends on what type of bachelor party we’re talking about. None of the ones I went to in my younger days would’ve been having dinner there.

Coming into this thread late, but something tells me OCMD is not the place for craft beer. I picture people going there for just for a shitshow.

We're not going there FOR beer. But at least 4-5 of the guys going are big beer guys, so I figured there had to be at least a couple stops worth making. Appreciate the responses from everyone.

Yeah, I love Henlopen. Do you remember the days when you could get 750 ml of Cantillon? I've had bottles of Fou Foune and Lou Pepe there before. How I long for those days again...

I've never bothered with the breweries in OCMD because they don't seem to be well rated

If things haven't changed, Burley Oak is BYOF...Me and my wife took subs from Anthony's when we went

Anythony's is a decent option for beer to go...they have a bar now but it's small

Again, if things haven't changed DFH brewery gives you a free flight of whatever they have on tap

To give you an idea of the "beach scene" around the shore there.

Ocean City MD is very carny like, and party made. It's very large, so it caters to that demographic, so it's going to just have simple food and drink, a racous night life, quite a bit of car traffic on Rt. 1, and so forth. Beer will be what it will be,

As you head North, Bethany, very small beach, but it's a family place, there's some good places to eat in between that and Fenwick. But it's just a small quiet place, with one ok bottle shop, but not a beer destination.

Dewey. Small, but rowdy. It's a frat party that doesn't end. Food options are minimal basic and not that great, the brewery there is quite solid, and their food is not too bad either. Places to eat here aren't that great though. Bottle shops here don't carry much, and your best beer shopping is in Rehoboth which is close.

Right next to Dewey and next door is Rehoboth Beach. Boardwalk, good sized beach, family friendly, gay friendly, great beer scene, home to Dogfish, and has beach food but also better dining options, particularly if you want to get good beer. Henlopen Oyster as someone has mentioned is a great beer stop, I also like stopping by DFH cause they will have one-offs which are often exceptional. My personal fav beach place, but Rehoboth is getting pricey now. It also has large scale outlet liqour stores which have plenty of tax free beer, Outlet Liquors, Atlantic, and my personal favorite Cape Wine And spirits which is a little farther outside. If you go into one, they tend to all have the same selection but you may luck out on a one off too.

Yes I've explored it all.. and drank it the beer too

Lewes has some things but there's no reason to go there unless you want to as it's a little out of the way and your catching a ferry to Cape May.

Depending on which way you are going, If you are taking the Turnpike or 95, Double Nickle in Pennsauken is not far off of the highway.
If you are taking the parkway down, why not stop and Carton and/or Kane and grab a couple of kegs?
