I'm by no means not not an expert, but I believe you are correct sir.

FWIW I've had CBS from a bottle and pours from 2 different barrels months apart, with the most recent being a surprise a few weeks ago. All three were excellent, especially the most recent pour. I like that the barrel notes, particularly the Maple, were very subtle.

I'm excited to finally get to try Better Half.

I guess they ran out of IPA's to age in bourbon barrels finally?

You can't do a BA IPA at the start of stout season. That'd be worse than putting an IPA in a barrel period...

They trickle out the good stuff.

Came across the re-release of Double Trouble at FIBman's the other day. Was fresh (17 May) so picked up a 4 pk. Glad I did. Tastes as good as I ever remember it. If you were a fan of it in the past and can find it reasonably fresh, I'd definitely recommend a purchase.

Picked up barrel runner this weekend. Mosaic Hopped Double IPA aged in rum barrels. Swing and a miss on this one. Did not like it one bit. I don't even know how to describe it other then bad... I guess rum barrels don't do it for me as I've liked everything else they've put out in bourbon barrels.

I liked it more than Dankwood, but that is like saying I would much rather drive a Kia than a Yugo.

Dankwood I thought was decent. Not my favorite, which kinda surprised me since I really liked redankulous, but it just didn't do it for me. I would have preferred DKML again this year over this barrel runner. Just nasty stuff.

I will increase this suckfest by one:

DKML > Dankwood > Barrel Runner.

Didn't care for Dankwood. Everything felt subdued in flavor without anything of resemblance of being a memorable beer. Going hard pass on barrel runner

I found a four pack (one of a dozen) at a meijers in michigan, 15.50 a 4 pack. I'd imagine that's about as cheap as it gets.

Any word on whether Imperial Stout is returning this winter?

No FIS on the 2018 schedule. Haven't seen anything on a possible return in 2019.

My reaction was exactly the same as yours.

Personally, I've had a number of beers aged in rum barrels that I liked just fine. However, none of them were a mosaic hopped DIPA, and I don't think that's a coincidence. While Founders is one of the few breweries that I think is able to make an enjoyable barrel aged DIPA (I thought Doom was great), just as you said, this was a BIG swing and a miss this time around. I got just a 4 ounce pour at my local tap house, and I was unable to finish even that.

Tasted like jalepeno vinegar scallion cream dip to me.

Sigh... I guess there's no hope of them ever making Black Biscuit again. Would love to revisit that beer again.
