Hopefully I can find it.. as I haven't come close to finding the Coffee Porter! Though I've seen the series 1 and 2 all over the place... and picked up the Black Quad.. good stuff.

Whilst we're on the subject of Shiner: I have NO problem with their Wild Hare Pale Ale. I've gone to a few events lately that were BMC/Shiner only and that's a solid brew that's easily accessible most anywhere. Their Bohemian Black lager is still my favorite though.

I agree... I really like the Wild Hare Pale Ale... picked up a six pack not too long ago when Shiner was the only alternative to the big three in a small town.. and it was really good in my opinion.

    Wild Hair is very solid.

Agreed. Their first special that came in the family pack, Old Time Alt, was pretty nice as well.

I think Shiner suffers from the asinine "if I can get it easy, it must suck" mindlessness.

The Alt was pretty tasty from what I recall.

I wish they'd bring back Smokehaus.

Shiner is a really common gateway beer. I never liked it though. I did briefly like Sam Adams Boston Lager. The beer that really got me into craft beer though, was Lost Abbey's Inferno (which many say is a Duvel clone).

I like how these comments went form subtle bashing of Spoetzel beers to a more positive note on their beers:slight_smile:

I may have to revoke my craft beer drinker card for saying this, but I think that the Shiner Ruby Redbird (made with grapefruit) was actually a really solid beer. My GF, who does not drink beer, really enjoyed it. I thought it was fantastic on a hot day. As stated above, I think Shiner is a really great gateway beer for BMC drinkers.

I liked Ruby Redbird the last time I had it also. There is a bit of a soapy taste but it comes from the grapefruit peel, that was peoples biggest comlpaint about the beer.

Nah. I love that beer on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn. Works perfectly for me in that situation. Again, everything doesnt have to be the best beer ever brewed - sometimes a beer is just a beer, and thats OK.

Saw this one, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Never had an oyster stout, but I love oysters and I love stouts, so the combination intrigues me.
