Well, looks like the hype experts at BrewDog have done it again.

tl;dr: BrewDog released their Ghost Deer - the strongest ever live fermented beer at 28% ABV - in 60 ml nip bottles today. It was previously only tapped from a mock-up deer head.

They are 5.99 for a bottle, which I suppose isn't too bad. Supposedly only one barrel of it was left (the other was tapped from the deer head), but that will render a LOT of 60 ml nip bottles.

Anyone planning on getting any? I wouldn't mind one or two, but their shipping prices are insane.

On a somewhat unrelated note: anyone have access to slightly cheaper Tokyo Rising Sun Highland Edition? I saw it for 20 quid down in London's Utobeer stall. It's ridiculously overpriced, but gorgeous.

£5.99 for 60ml is quite bad. Who wants 60ml of beer?/Who wants a beer you can only drink 60ml of? To me that isn't even beer, it's a spirit that's been made wrong. This makes me angry.

Though the funniest things are the comments on brewdog articles from their beer yuppy fans.

Yeah, I can get quite pissed off about BrewDog's marketing. The worst thing is the bastards actually back it up as well, or at least most of the time.

If people buy it, people will sell it...they're good businessmen and once in a while produce a pretty solid beer (Paradox Jura is pretty damn good imo). Granted, you never know who's brewing their beer these days...wonder what the QC will be like once they have their new, gigantic, brewery operating.

It is sad to see what could have been a promising brewery quickly disappearing up their own arse. Tired cliched "aggressive" marketing stance based on nothing but ripping of US breweries and a sad delusion that they are more important than they actually are.

I get that they are trying you to get us to look at beer differently, but £6 for a mouthfull of beer is ridiculous for a product made of water, malt and hops. Will be interested to see if their new brewery allows them to address the long standing absolutely awful consistency of their core product, or will it result in more self indulgent novelty beers being served out of "wacky" packaging.

Was very impressed all those bottles of Alice Porter I had over the weekend. I'm hoping their brewing gets back on track now that they have their new site in Ellon open.

Nobody should really be surprised by this type of marketing from BD. It doesn't interest me either but there are those who will lap it up.

It is expensive, that's in seriously good single malt territory. I'd be tempted to try it though, purely out of interest. The miniature is a good idea from that perspective

Yeah I'm interested in trying this super strong 'beers'. Though I do kinda agree with EssexAleMan that they can't really be beers at that strength (not that I've tried any).

I like the idea of having smaller sampling bottles rather than having to buy a bigger bottle at £40.

Tempted, though last time I ordered from them their customer service sucked!!

I wish they would make the beers that were actually great, e.g. Hops Kill? as their main line of beer.

To me that's what shows they cater for the gimmicky "look how different we are" market.

BD seems to focus on either their extreme top end or their more bottom feederish beers. Like you its their mid range which appeals to me most but its been neglected recently.

Their biggest surprise for me was actually their Dogma. I usually don't like scotch ales, but this was proper gorgeous.

I wasn't that impressed, not compared with stuff like Traquair anyway.

That price for half a pint and we will call it fair

otherwise I might as well buy a miniature of bells and a can of gold label mix up a shot and throw a
two pound coin down the grid.

Screw giving money hand over fist to those bullshit merchants.

I have only had the standard Brewdog beers and I have found them inconsistent
and of fair to middling quality

I do actually like a bit o' fun and maybe the odd gimmick but
I do actually like Punk rock so there marketing grates me and
I ain't got cash to piss up the wall

So I see it their premier brews as participating in class war tactics and shitting on the poor

    Woah.

I broadly agree with you, but Brewdog charging £10 or whatever for one of their shitty experiments isn't class war, no more than a £200 pair of shoes is. Beer, and certainly beer of that nature, is a luxury product.

    Yes and No IMHO
Sure they need to turn a profit and I am not expecting companies to lose money in order for me to sup beer

    but

They seem to charge £10 where most others would charge £5

and a £200 pair of shoes could be a rugged pair of boots that last a lifetime
    or
A pair of 50p flip flops with a
    Alexander McQueen signature

At the very least its pretty high end decadence during these days of austerity.

Right. I was thinking a pair of tarty high-heels.

Anyway, I know what you mean, but when a 660ml bottle of Moor's Hoppiness costs £5, and Brewdog are incapable, in my opinion, of producing anything as well made, I just don't care.

Not sure if that is a poem or a song ;-)

I actually haven't had many of their offerings - I like the Tesco Double IPA (which is Hardcore in disguise) and dont mind their Dead Pony Club. But other than that i havent tried many due to their high prices (as you state).

I am vaguely tempted to try this Ghost Deer, just out of interest (never had such a strong "beer") and like the fact they arent selling it in a 330ml bottle for 40 quid which has to all be drunk once opened.

Daresay I'll prob give it a miss though!
