I’ve never been a big fan of Prairie Bomb!. The biggest detractor for me is the mouthfeel, or lack thereof in such a big beer. The few times I’ve had it I thought the heat/flavor from the peppers was also lacking. With these beers now available in NJ, I figured I’d give this new one a try.

I do like this better, as I think the added sweetness melds nicely with the base beer and particularly the heat and earthy flavor of the peppers.

Very good amber lager. Great lasting head retention and lacing on the glass. Crystal clarity. Flavors of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, lightly spicy rye, nutty, and biscuit malts; with lighter notes of vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and herbal/grassy hops. Similar/muted aromas, with a touch of fruitiness. Very mild herbal/grassy bitterness and rye/oak spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; very creamy/silky/grainy malts, slight sticky hop and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and spicy rye/oak. No cloying sweetness. Perfectly clean lager flavors, no fruity/yeasty notes. Very drinkable and pretty refreshing for 6.2%. Pretty impressive stuff for the Amber/Vienna lager style. Very clean and nicely rich dark/bready/rye malts; with solid bourbon stave presence. Not a ton, but adequate enough for noticeable added barrel complexity. 3.81

Awesome as expected. Lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, biscuit dough, honeyed malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very creamy/silky/bready malts, and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slight lingering resins/rinds near the end of the glass. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no cloying/astringency. Very smooth, lightly increasing warmth of 9.9%. Dangerously smooth. Extremely juicy, and lightly dank/earthy hops; great bready wheat/oat/malt backbone. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Spot on stuff as usual, but not as hazy as the rest. 4.13

I almost bought this Bud yesterday as part of build your own six pack. Based on your review, i am gonna buy it. Got a brother in law in PA who drinks just Bud (ok, rum and bourbon too). I wonder how he would react.

Namaste my friend. Getting near to the end of the line. Reminds me of a song. But I do not remember.

It's worth a single pickup. It's a decent copper lager, but I think you might find it too sweet for your tastes. I liked it well enough, but I preferred the Freedom Reserve Red lager a little more. The only bourbon presence I could find, was on the label. Maybe you'll have better luck than I.

Breaking the rules, half from the glass and the rest from the can. This should still be pretty, less than a week old...
