Same. I've gotten busier and busier the past year, enough to make taking multiple trips to Decorah yearly an impossibility and therefore it was hard to justify paying into the Mug Club. The growler fill and taproom discount was nice, but ultimately I couldn't justify it even including being able to buy a bottle of Assassin just because I wasn't able to get out there often enough anymore. My "wash" is someone else's gain!

Handed an 8/16 Sue can tonight. Did not have the recent large floaties and tasted like my Sue. Looking forward to more and more recent.

I live in this area, but I hardly ever go to the new tap room (usually drink at Dixie's - old TG taproom - or Pulpit in Decorah) so I don't make use of the growlers, and I just really don't care about the whalezbro stouts any more, and I've grown a disdain for the whole beer release scene. I know I can get a bottle and sell it for 5x what I paid for it because there are a lot of idiots with too much money in the world, but that seems hollow too.

I'm sure there is someone whose day was made by getting on the Mug Club roster, so I'm glad I could pass that joy along rather than hoard something I really don't care about just to take advantage of neckbeards.

I wish more people had this attitude. I live in Chicago so it's bonkers here as well. I often see people justify going to wait in lines for expensive stout releases by saying, "well hey, I can just flip some of these bottles and easily make back my money." Yes, obviously you can do that, but that's just so dirty to me. Maybe I've been in the "scene" longer than most but I remember the old days when people would just drink the beer they bought. People wouldn't ask an arm and a leg for beer sin trade. People wouldn't wait in crazy lines for beer (something I have refused to do to this day). Breweries wouldn't jack prices of their beers knowing their consumers would pass along the cost in the secondary markets.

A lot has changed and I'm fine with that, but I applaud you for not supporting it.

I'll admit that I've sold TG whalez for large amounts (bought my fat bike with the proceeds), but like you said, I just don't have it in me to wait in line to get that stuff. There's a lot of great beer being made on a not-that-rare basis that you don't have to fight people for. I'm sticking with that.

Like you, I came to the conclusion that the only way to resist the insanity of the beer game these days is to simply not participate.

Agreed, the amount of incredible beer out there that is wasting away on shelves gives me no desire to wait in line for something that may or may not be better than what I can get going to a local store. Sure, there are incredible beers out there you can only get by waiting in line or paying a ton of money for, those are just beers I won't be drinking, and they're maybe, what 5% better than other great beers? Just not worth it.

With $200 and a free Saturday I can make at least 10 gallon of delicious BA RIS (including the price of buying the barrel).

Exactly. Yeah, KBBS is probably the best beer I've ever had, but it's not good enough to get in lotteries, wait in line, fight crowds, or pay hundreds of dollars to taste.

If I found it pouring for $20 per 5oz, I wouldn't pull the trigger.

As luck would have it, there's newfound space in my cellar. I just decommissioned a 15-gallon rye whisky barrel last month.

See, that's what separates you from the rest of us. It's the driving hundreds of miles away in addition to all the other things you listed that makes it taste that much better! :sunglasses:

Could of signed up for Mug Club in late 2013 but only seemed like a good deal if you live close and frequent the taproom. Still feel the same day.
