Hello BAs! I will be traveling from the U.S. to the Netherlands on business and fortunately have an entire day to myself in Amsterdam on Sunday 11 Nov. I'm sure you get this question all the time in this forum and I've done some preliminary planning on beer advocate (In the Wildeman?). However, if anyone can provide some tips on a great local dutch beer bar/pub in Amsterdam, preferably with a decent food selection, I would be highly appreciative.

A brewery in a windmill. It's as good as it sounds. Basic, but dirt cheap. All the beers - including the 9% ones - are under 3 euros.

Arendsnest, Arendsnest, Arendsnest. Sit outside by a canal, provided it's not raining, and have the best beers Holland has to offer brought to you. So great.

The Beer Temple is fairly charmless.

Couldn't agree more with this tip. Just one additional thing to consider as you are looking for food as well... After you have your fix at Arendsnest, walk 10 feet (i will go US system here in the euro forum... brave, I know) to the restaurant next door for some good Belgium food:

    Belgisch Restaurant Lieve
    Herengracht 88, 1015 BS

They also do pairings at this restaurant... not too many special beers, but nonetheless, a belgium beer to go along with your belgium food.

The recommendations that Patto1ro are also very nice...

    Have fun!
