I think the soapy flavor comes more from the ginger than the grapefruit peel.

Either way, I enjoyed it too.

 

I made a grapefruit wheat that had a similar soapy flavor... But I bet that ginger added, I never thought about that.

I got one of these as an extra in a trade. I have yet to try it though...

 

I grabbed one at the brewpub in April and it's been in my Cellar. I'll have to break it out sometime soon.

 

I had the harpoon oyster stout, it was part of their 100 barrel series, so im sure you wont find it anymore. (ive looked but not very hard but havent seen it since it was released and its been quite a while)

Abita is so meh though that i wouldnt get too excited. Their anniverary double vanila turbodog was about as exciting as ...well turbodog. (which i do like) Good but no real other flavors. they could have just thrown it in the turbodog bottles an nobody would have known a difference imo.

id still try it though if i found a bottle, at least i like the abitas ive had.

 

I've had a lot of TurboDog and I thought the double was quite a bit better.. loved that stuff...(I really like Andygator also... their IPA Jockamo is horrible though IMO..)

It's hard for me to imagine drinking an oyster stout... so I probably won't be trying it.. not an oyster fan at all.

 

Double vanilla Turbodog tasted like Turbodog doused in salt. it was gross, just like almost every Abita beer.

 

Double Vanilla Turbodog sounds like a Yankee Candle, not a beer.

 

As someone who as tastebuds, i didnt taste a BIT of vanilla so, meh.

then again, ppl yell at me how good brooklyns black choc stout is, but yet, no choc is found in any sip ive EVER had, so meh.

but hey, your taste buds are not mine, et cetera et al, yadda yadda.

 

To continue the Shiner talk, I noticed HEB had mucho Cheer on the shelves. I thought last years was tasty. Has anyone had this years batch?

this has to be a mistake, I saw at least 2 cases minus the one I bought in my small town specs

 

I had it the other night at a small bar, it was tasty, I love the stuff

I hope this doesn't cut back on the ammount of Abyss we receive.
