I think that's a pretty unfair characterization of metal fans, since only a small subset are really that closed-minded, in my admittedly anecdotal experience. If anything, mainstream music/pop fans are more closed-minded, refusing to enjoy anything that isn't simplistic and hook-laden. There is a ton of varied, forward-thinking, progressive metal out there (not just in the genre "progressive metal," either).

I'm a bit confused. I thought Stone was against yellow fizzy beer!

And Jim Koch used to be against IPAs.

I think it's probably best to not be "against" any style, in case you eventually brew it.

Stone should be concentrating on making better beer with a wider variety. Instead of doing this gimmicky crap.

Although I agree with you, Stone has been the poster child for gimmick from jump street. You're not worthy, anyone? Now, apparently, we're not worthy of variety. Fancy that. *****.

Can you please provide some specifics here? What qualities (or lack thereof) made this beer "bad" for you?

    Cheers!

Yeah, that's the one thing I disagree with. The only beers I've liked in Stone's portfolio are Xocoveza and Wussie (RIP). Everything else is forgettable.

That's sad. Thrash does tend to be one of the most straightforward genres of metal by nature, but there's so much quality material, especially when you start digging into the underground bands. But, to each his own.

I think most people would MUCH prefer Thrash or Hardcore to Grindcore or Death Metal. FWIW, been listening to a lot of the Sirius XM Liquid Metal station. Great stuff, that.

Irregardless of the Metallica connection, any beer labeled "____ NIGHT" should be a dark beer.

I'm in Santa Barbara on vacation, and spotted this at Whole Foods so I grabbed a sixer. (It still hasn't hit NorCal).

Okay, let's get this out of the way. This is not Wussie renamed.

In fact, this is maybe the exact opposite. My beloved Wussie had this beautiful fruity hop flavor that gave it brightness and sweetness reminiscent of my favorite new-school hoppy Blonds and Pale Ales.

    Enter Night
, on the other hand, is bone dry. It's pretty effervescent. This has the grassy grainy flavors you expect of a traditional Noble hopped Pilsner, but there's no trace of sugars. And to add to the dryness, it's got a pretty aggressive bitter note that hits mid-palate and lingers for a while after it goes down.

This would be a great post-run or hot day beer. But what I really wanted was more Wussie. Oh well.

lagunitas just released a dark pilsner. It was weird. But it was what I thought this was instead of this confusingly named thing.

I finally got to try the Enter Night beer. Thought it was quite solid for a Pilsner.

Now I'm questioning whether its the same beer as Wussie though from my recollection with a can rebranding and new name. Can anyone confirm its definitely a different formulated pilsner than Wussie?

Wussie is fruity. Enter Night is bitter. Definitely not same recipe.

I'm on board with that assessment. I did think Enter Night had some bitterness in finish more than I remembered from Wussie, but doing a taste 1+ years apart I wasn't quite sure if my taste buds could be relied upon. Maybe everything else the same but just a slight tweak on hopping perhaps.

When I think of open-minded people, there's no group that comes more immediately to mind dudes who listen to obscure metal bands and talk condescendingly about anyone who listens to "mainstream" music.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the thread title... It's a perfect collaboration in a way. They should have named it "Shadow of our former selves," but that kind of blunt honesty probably wouldn't appeal to the consumer.

It is just another IPA mislabeled. Stone stopped making anything else long ago.
