Latest Pipeworks Releases and Updates (2018)

Grabbed a 4 pack of the Brut today and will report back tomorrow. My Trader Joe’s didn’t get in the Chicago Expo Beer. Anyone have that yet?

 

Opened three bottles of regular and one Port finished Murderous last night....all with a very distinct sour cherry "off" flavor. Definitely not The Murderous from years past. Kudos to PW's for getting ahead of this! Now lets hope they've already got some more going into barrels real soon!

 

Had the Port tonight...aggressive tart cherry notes already, I barely got through a few ounces.

I was hoping it would taste fine & I wouldn't have to take @Pipeworks up on their offer...but I'm glad they mad it. Good on 'em!!

And I'm really looking forward to getting not just one, but a few The Last Kiss if they're still around...that's a damn fine beer.

 

Can’t say I loved the Brut. I’ve only had 6-7 of the style before. I don’t mind the dryness/effervescence at all, but I think I need the hops to bring some fruitiness for me to enjoy the style.

 

Had the brandy murderous tonight. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Pleasantly surprised.

 

Had a can of the EXPO CHGO last night and I thought it was fantastic. I absolutely love it. There is some lemon/lime flavor coming in from the hop combo so if that isn't your deal in IPAs you may not like it, not as much as say something like sorachi ace or lemondrop hops, but there is also some berry/pine/dankness to it with a bitter finish which balances that out in my opinion. The body reminds me of lizard king, but with mosaic and ekuanot instead of mosaic and amarillo. Really great aroma on this one.

 

Had a Brandy Murderous tonight and while not terrible it's definitely not right. Tart, metallic cherry start that then lends to the barrel. Overall not what I was hoping for unfortunately.

 

Out Of Line is excellent. Reminds me of how Half Acre is constructing many of their new school, brewpub only beers. On of my favorites from PWs lately.

 

I completely agree. Had one just last night. A good amount of tropical notes, but with enough hop to create a nice balance. Another winner for Pipeworks.

 

I would rate Out if Line as more solid though maybe I don’t love Ekuanot hops? It’s definitely more of a transitional haze beer as it still has some traditional IPA to it to go along with the fruit notes

Loved their new hazy, unicorn vs science. Hits the mouthfeel, has a light bitterness that works perfectly with the citrusy-ness. Should have got 2.

 

Hoping that one makes it out to distro as it sounds super interesting

 

They replied on instagram that it’s a “small-ish” batch but distro likely Monday

 

Opened the last 3 bottles of BA The Murderous (regular, Port and Brandy), and all 3 have have noticeably turned. I had the same 3 approximately 2 weeks ago, and only 1 (BA Murderous regular) was turning although still enjoyable. The 3 bottles I had yesterday were definitely not enjoyable. I saved about half the bottle of each which I will be returning to Pipeworks. I love Pipeworks barley-wines so it pains me that I won't be able to enjoy these over next few months and years.

 

Agreed. I was really looking forward to popping the Port Murderous on a special occasion...they handled this REALLY well but it's truly a bummer.
