Not trying to be argumentative... examples of this? It obviously no longer trades for shit if everyone can get it, but I have never experienced what you are talking about.

KBS comes to mind sort of, but people chased that because it was hard to get, it never had that much BA character even 5 years ago. Now that stores can buy as much as they want, and there are 10x as many BA'd beers, many of which are aged longer and with higher abv, KBS no longer stands out, and is accumulating dust on the shelf in VA and DC. It is a classic BA'd adjunct stout, but can't really hang with the 'big beers' of 2018. I don't know if that's what you're talking about, but that's 'us' and the market/industry changing, the KBS has been the same from day 1.

Lots of people for lots of beers across lots of styles say this. For big beers people know about but aren't available widely, people say this about treehouse hard core, about Sip of sunshine, about KBS, I've heard it about black note, hop slam, etc.

It's just one of those things. It may be true, or it may not, but people say this all the time.

Don't think I have once ever seen anyone say it about BCBS though, which I guess is both surprising and interesting given the ABI hate.

It's all that raritanium they're not tasting. Everyone knows rare is the best flavor, and the only way to get it is by conditioning on pure raritanium. Raritanium is, of course, rare, and when breweries scale up production, they leave it out because they can't get enough to put in every batch.

Teasing aside, BCBS has had some of its best years since production was ramped up and gasp Ab-InBev was involved in making it, too! (I'm talking about basic, base-beer BCBS, not the variants because they're so different they can't really be compared against one another quality-wise). I don't think BA Expo will be any worse because of the increased production, though I wouldn't know since I have never had it.

As another counter example, Rev's Deep Woods Series has steadily been increasing in volume and their quality/flavor/desirability has likewise increased.

I'll :beers: to that. Deth's tar was one of my favorite BA beers last year. It was outstanding.

Totally agree. Their barrel program has made huge strides in quality alongside higher volume and greater availability. Good call.

Those are not even barrel aged beers other than BN and KBS, which are both 11-12% abv and were never monsters of gravity and power, especially compared to the BIG beers we have now. Again, I have never heard of barrel aged beers having 'less barrel character' when they were scaled up. If anyone 'says that' it's because they have another year of drinking barrel aged beers under their belt

re: Hopslam/ SoS/ Tree_House, it must just tasted better when you had it and the other guy didn't. Other than hop variation, they are literally the same beers year over year. It's you, not the beers, that are changing. I am not saying you are dumb or wrong, but "those people" who say it's not as good as last year are typically not to be trusted in terms of beer palate.

I tend to agree with your premise - though I believe the people who say Sip of Sunshine wasn't the same after it was being contract brewed in CT - same concept as PseudoSue, I trust the people who say it wasn't the same at the new place.

Wasn't SoS ONLY brewed in CT? I don't believe it was ever made in Vermont.

Yes, this is correct. Even the bombers were brewed in CT. However, it is also true that the profile of that beer has not stayed the same over time. Switching to being contract brewed just isn't the reason.

Per Facebook, $25.99 per 4-pack, 1 case limit per person. While supplies last. It does not say how many allocations are available.

As stated above, the General Store opens at 10:00 AM. It will also be available on tap.

Will be heading there around lunch. Friends of mine are getting there shortly. I really didn't think lining up was going to be necessary so we'll see how long it lasts.
