From the photos, there definitely appears to be a color difference between the two and I'd not checked out the ABV on the one I haven't had yet.

Definitely suggests more going on than just a hop change.

I really like that one too, but the Mosaic ones are my favorites. My ratings look about the same as yours. And agree with you on the lack of heavy dankness, which is unusual for OH. A lot of their DIPAs, particularly Citra ones, are heavy on the dank.

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t send that beer, but I wanted my target to get the full “Double Thai Day” treatment, and that was in the allotment, so .....

Bare Hands and Transient are good breweries to have “local.” Glad you enjoyed them. Give me a heads up when you try the Junies (if you’re going to save them for an NBS) - we can “share” a drink together.

    New Beer Sunday: Pumpkin Beer

Afternoon NBSers, with an alert for fans of Pumpkin Ales who want to try one that is not like Grandmother’s pumpkin pie.

This afternoon’s new beer is the New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin.

As usual, my review, subject to revision until I finish the beer, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/277641/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors include some pumpkin and light toasted bready caramel malts and some sweetness. What is unexpected in a pumpkin ale is the combination of the cinnamon and chili pepper which work quite well together. The malt and pumpkin start out up front and then towards the ending fade to allow the cinnamon and chili pepper to create a bit of spicy heat that persists to the ending in the back of the throat and palate.

    Cheers, all!

L-The beer pours a clear light amber. The head is off-white and around 1 cm in height. The head recedes to a thin film and ring leaving no lacing behind.
S- The nose is clean and bready with a subtle sweetness. There is a light spicy hop presence. Overall intensity is above average for a octoberfest.
T-The taste follows the nose with a lightly sweet malt base that finishes with a spicy hop linger.
F-Mouthfeel overall is medium. Carbonation is also medium and prickly. The finish is not quite dry.
O-One of the most balanced Octoberfest beers I've had. Straddles that line between sweet and hoppy almost perfectly. The mouthfeel is almost too much for drinking in multiples. Overall though one of the better domestics I've had.

    Eviltwin bozo beer
    ..solid black color
..creamy thick feel with light carbonation
..aroma is black coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, molasses and a slight bit of chillis and espresso
...taste is very similar, plenty of coffee notes, the oak gave it a dry earthy taste. Some heat lingered in the aftertaste
...overall it is very enjoyable, eviltwin can be hit or miss for me and this was a hit[IMG]

Looks like we have a beer in common today!

Anywho- thanks to @r0rschach for the opportunity at trying this New Beer on New Beer Sunday!

    And my feeble review

Hopefully I’ll be back with a few more as I’ve got more than a couple of BAs to give credit to!

Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the beers from both breweries, your lucky to have both so close. It's nice to try beers outside of the comfort zone, I can't think of a Thai IPA available here, and to be honest now I'd definately buy them if I see them , and I do like the spiciyness. It's was nice to step away from the norm. Can't wait to get into the Stouts, this weekend started the season. Appreciate the box and I'll definately put the beers in NBS.

Diving into something very new and very fresh. This beer was released this past Friday, and as far as I know, marks the first limited to-go IPA run by this traditional sour producer. Their sours are absolutely fantastic, and their "It's Just a Phaze" NE IPA was one of the best NE IPAs in the city, so I'm glad they finally put a NE IPA into a to-go format. Enough chatter, let's dive into something brand new.

    Crane Brewing Company's Guava Milkshake.

Pours an opaque orange with a hint of hazy transparency. Head formation is a finger in height, and white in color. Head retention is mild. Aroma is a big explosion of tropical fruits, citrus, guava, lactose, and biscuit malts. It draws the nose in for another whiff, and immediately greets the senses with bold tropical fruits and citrus yet again. Flavor profile is tropical fruits - guava, papaya, and mango, followed by a slightly earthy, biscuit malt. Lactose is present throughout, adding another layer of sweetness. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a large, grainy texture. There is a bit of chalky residue left on the tongue after the flavor profile concludes. Overall, a splendid NE IPA with an attentive focus on tropical fruits. Lactose can be hit or miss big-time in beers, but serves this beer fairly well.

    Up next?
I am thinking of Ubering up to a new brewery in town and sipping through a flight or two.

Deep golden orange-colored beer, solid opacity; coupla fingers of thick, creamy white head... Packs a thick fruit paste onto the palate, sweet and richly fruity but also moderately bitter... Suggestions of tropical fruits like mango, papaya, and passion fruit accompany stone fruit fleshiness like that of apricots and peaches... The feel is thick and full, but smooth and soft... Might come off a little sloppy, but this is a big beer, with a big abv (10.1%), and I'm gonna give it the nod anyway...

That'll do me new beer-wise, NBS - see ya over in WBAYDN, cheers...

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Snulip glass not sure when was canned but was recent I trust. Pours a hazy orange with a finger head that leaves a thin wall of lace behind. 4.5

Smell guava, papaya, pineapple, and some moderate white grapefruit, amazingly balanced and juicy as hell. 4.5

Taste follows tropical all the way with mild bitterness, really excellent.4.75

Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, soft mouthfeel with gentle carbonation, a tad sticky but not dry, and at 8.7% ABV insanely drinkable. 4.75

Overall this is top notch, would put it up against all the big juice bombs, really special. 4.5

I was out of Oktoberfests, but picked up a few singles when out-of-town last weekend.

This one pours a lovely, clear copper color (surprise, surprise) with good effervescence and a fat finger of creamy, light tan head. It leaves nice, thick lacing.

It has a clean, bready, slightly-sweet aroma. The nose carries over to the taste. It’s definitely a sweeter, Marzen-style festbier, but has enough hop bitterness and a mild metallic element that keep it fairly well balanced. There’s a soft, cakey finish.

The feel is light to medium bodied with perhaps a touch too-strong carbonation.

This is a very solid, well-balanced example of the sweeter substyle. Go Birds.

    Synopsis:
Just exploding with hop flavors. Citrus, dank, sweet tropical fruits. A thick, chewy beer as well. Citra involved in the hopping but no meatiness due to (I assume) the freshness of this beer. @r0rschach I hope you maintain the hops/barrel as you scale up production, because this is the tits right here. Also hope you are ok with me giving @larryi86 a can so Larry can experience how good your brews are too.

Spirit Beast, a BBA blend of various Barleywines and Stouts, by Jackie O's.

Pours a deep, dark brown, almost black coloration with a small, thin, fizzy head. Smells of caramel malt, dark fruits, brown sugar and toffee.

Taste is quite sweet and boozy, being dominated by caramel malt, toffee, molasses, brown sugar and dark fruits: fig, date, raisin and with lighter notes of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and charred oak. Finishes sticky sweet, with notes of dark fruit lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and low carbonation.

While this is quite complex, the whole balance is heavily skewed towards sweeter elements, which works in terms of an internal consistency but is just way too sweet and sticky for my personal taste. Generally reminds me a lot more of a Barleywine than a Stout, although it has those slight notes of chocolate and coffee as well. Although it's quite boozy, it doesn't really have that distinct bourbon character to it, leaning more heavy towards barrel notes of vanilla and oak.

A: Dark motor oil color, minimal head, slight caramel color lacing

A: Smells like booze. Pure booze.

T: I was expecting booze bomb; it was not as boozy as I was bracing myself for. I feel like I picked up hints of burnt sugar, licorice, chocolate, some barrel, and coffee.

M: This was interesting. As I began my sip, it seemed like it was slightly carb'd. But, as I swallowed the beer, carbonation was barely present.

O: This was a very enjoyable beer from start to finish. Definitely a different beer as it warmed up to room temperature, for the better.

Also took 3/4 of the base beer and french pressed it with some toasted coconut. Liked the base beer cold, like the pressed beer at room temp.
