Pliny was first brewed in 2000. But you're correct in that Vinny had brewed up the first modern-day DIPA at Blind Pig in 1994.

I had all 3 Westy's while living in Europe, while the 6, and 8 blew away all other brews in their respective categories...the 12 did not.I would take a St. Bernardus abt 12 or Rochefort 10 over it any day

I would say BCBS but thats really not fair because I'm not a fan of bourbon. I do love me some quads and the one I felt did not live up to its rating is Pannepot Grand Reserva. It tasted off to me.

Unibroue. Canadian whiskey and bacon, and Neil Young is allright. I'd rather drink Labatt , Molson and Moosehead than that faux Belgian krapp.

CBS, it was good, just not worth the hype. I'd rather drink KBS anytime.

That's not the point. The point is that it's got 100 BA score and 100 from the brothers, so it should be the best of the best. Saying it's a "classic" is a cop-out. Knuckle Sandwich is better. Lagunitas Sucks is better. Heady Topper is better. Maharaja is better. And yet none of those is rated as high as Pliny. It's balanced? Ok there are a TON of very well-balanced beers out there, but no one is proclaiming them the best in their category just because they're balanced

Better is a relative term when it comes to beer. It might just mean that you don't share the popular opinion.

I think Pliny is an outstanding beer, and worthy of it's ratings. You don't. Personal ratings are not fact, they're just that. Personal.

Guinness when I had it three years ago. I did a drainbrew on half and haven't done that since Pete's wickedly bad brew. I would probably like it or tolerate more now with the porters and stouts i've had since then but Stouts are not my preference.

in regards to Stone I always have it on tap when I'm in the bars and restaurants out in San Diego and it's always fresh and good. I am not a huge hop head, but it's the specialty out there.

I'm not saying that it's not a great beer, just that it's not worthy of the ridiculously high praise it gets. It's something I would buy consistently if I could get it fresh, but never once has it tasted like a "best DIPA in the world", which is what it's rated and what most people consider it to be.

KBS and CBS (I know). Very, very good beers but the hype was just too much. So far the only beers I've had that lived up to extraordinary hype were the Bourbon Countys

People say that Led Zeppelin and The Beatles are some of the best bands in the word, and are highly regarded. I'm not saying they're not great bands, but just saying they're not worthy of the ridiculously high praise they get.

I would have to say 3 Floyds Baller Stout. I loved the concept and this idea to celebrate the anniversary, but it just didn't seem to live up to the occasion. Maybe after a little age.

Elder, all I have tried from great lakes, stone RIS, oak Yeti, Stormking(really disappointing) others I have blocked from my mind.

I still have brooklyn chocolate I picked up, Bitches Brew, Chokolat to try.

I thought White Rajah was better than I was expecting, as was Columbus IPA.

    Enjoy

That's a nonsensical term "best IIPA" in the world. If it is to you then it is, if its not, then its not. Why are people so caught up by a number.
To someone Corona is the best beer in the world, and that's valid - its subjective.
All of the beers you mentioned in your response are well made very tasty beers, but to say that one is better than another simply because one rates higher on a website, whose "judges" are not judges is short sighted. If you think its better, then it is, nevermind what the score says.
